If You Ever Come Home:
Tonks took a deep breath sat at her table with a paper and quill. She knew she had to do something, but she wasn't sure if this was the right thing to do.
As she stared down at the paper, quill in hand, she was at a loss of words. Should she beg? No, that's just ridiculous. She sat for a while, thinking of what she wanted to tell him.
He had left her, and he claimed he wasn't coming back. But she had to hold on to something, and that was hope.
She took another deep breath and started writing, shaking a bit.
If you're standing with your suitcase,
But you can't step on the train.
Everything's the way that you left it.
I still haven't slept yet.
She was very tired. Her eyes had trouble staying open. She took a ragged breath, trying not to let her emotions come out, because when she started sobbing about him, she wouldn't stop for hours. She was determined to write this letter.
And if you're covering your face now,
But you just can't hide the pain.
Still setting two plates on the counter,
but I'm eating without you.
She didn't know why she did that. Its not like he was going to walk in and sit next to her, kiss her, and eat with her. That was so far-fetched she almost found herself laughing. Almost.
If the truth is you're a liar,
When you say that you're okay.
I'm sleeping on your side of the bed going out of my head now.
When she did sleep, which was rare and very brief, she slept on his side of their bed. It smelt of him. She cried every time she laid there.
And I wish you could give me the cold shoulder.
And I wish you could still give me a hard time.
And I wish I could still wish it was over.
But even if wishing is a waste of time,
Even if I never cross your mind,
She couldn't help it anymore—a tear, followed by many more, fell down as she almost lost the will to keep writing. But she kept on, trying to think that maybe it could change his mind.
I'll leave the door on the latch,
If you ever come back.
There'll be a light in the hall and a key under the mat, just like always.
There'll be a smile on my face and the kettle on.
And it will be just like you were never gone.
She took a deep breath cursed herself for getting tear stains on the paper. He sniffed loudly and kept writing.
Now, they say I'm wasting my time.
Cause you're never coming home, they think.
But they used to say the world was flat but how wrong was that?
And by leaving my door open,
I'm risking everything I own.
It was true. She left the door unlocked, but if someone broke in and she didn't know it, they would steal anything they could. She cried again as she wrote,
There's nothing I can lose in the break in that you haven't taken.
If it's the fighting you remember or the little things you miss.
I know you're out there somewhere, so just remember this.
She froze, not knowing what to write next. When it came to her, she scribbled it down quickly, before she changed her mind.
I love you. Nothing will ever change that, not even the fact that
you're a werewolf. Remus, please don't do this. I need you. And
I know you need me too. So please, please come back home, where
you belong. Because I've left the door unlocked for you, and its
going to be like that until you come home.
She wiped all the tears away and studied her letter. She decided it needed something else.
Always waiting and loving,
Tonks.
