A pair of green eyes cracked openly slightly. Still hazy, it was hard to make out much. Jade had found a resting spot on the couch of Dave Armstrong, not having slept in a good while. It was about the only place on Earth she had to go. Dave had been tending to things on Earth, such as the limited basis accounting job he held and seeing to the instruction of the new Green Lanterns in the fledgling Corps. Better him than her.
She'd crashed on Dave's couch in late afternoon, but judging by the light peeking in through the eastern window - it was morning. Dave had apparently decided to let her sleep - admittedly the wisest option of those he had available. But there was a light on in a room to her left. Smells of food were wafting around. The only missing from this 'cheery' scene was humming or singing. He did that and she killed him.
Growing more wary of any further 'surprises', she growled lightly, rolling over and intent on sleeping for a while until Dave's blasted good cheer wore off. Well, she'd meant to, save for something soft that seemed to be entangled about her. Dave had laid a blanket over her in the night. Scowling again, she made use of what she had. The blanket was pulled over her head.
"Good morning, sunshine."
There was a noise of something being placed like a cup or a mug on the small end table beside the couch.
"No."
"Pardon?"
"Keep your Starbucks the feck away from me, kid."
Dave laughed. "Haven't sold out to Starbucks yet. Besides, I'm the accountant. I could tell you how making your own is loads more cost effective and efficient."
Abruptly pulling the blanket back, she cast her usual scowl his way, albeit tinged with a hint of grogginess in this instance. Her gaze shifted to the mug she'd heard before. Stretching a hand out, she took a small, experimental sip. Admittedly, it wasn't bad. Forcibly turning herself over, he lay on her back, resting her head on the armrest.
After several moments, she cracked an eye open. Dave was still sitting where he had been, unmoving, that damned annoying at times smile on his face. Mostly so because he chose to direct it at her so often.
"What, no platter with a flower in a vase on the corner?"
Dave's smirk was rather quick in coming. "Nope. You want breakfast, you gotta get up and get it yourself." He got up to return to the kitchen, adding, "The flower's out there." The teasing lilt to his voice made it plain he was kidding.
Still, she was half-tempted to go back to sleep. But she was hungry. And it did smell good, anyhow. Growling slightly, and grumbling to herself, she wrestled her way from the blanket and got up to go the kitchen herself.
