Another Thomas rewrite, this time it's "Edward the Great" from Season 8, with added lines by tate310. Enjoy and comment.
Edward is a really useful engine who loves to pull coaches and shunt freight cars in the yard.
Sometimes, he often works as a back engine as well.
But Edward is the oldest engine on Sodor, and he isn't as strong as the other engines. This makes him feel left out.
One day, the Duke and Duchess of Boxford came to visit their new summerhouse. They arrived on-board Spencer, their own private train.
Spencer is big, silver, and very fast.
When he pulled into Knapford Station, his driver had big news for him.
"You are now faster than Gordon!" he exclamed.
"Of course!" boasted Spencer. "I am indeed the fastest engine on Sodor."
This made the other engines very cross.
"Spencer's just a big sliver show-off!" mumbled Gordon.
Everyone agreed to what Gordon said.
Just then, Sir Topham Hatt arrived.
"Spencer, you are to take the Duke and Duchess to their summerhouse." he boomed. "Another engine will take their furniture."
The other engines thought this would be a great opportunity for a race.
"Please sir." said the other engines, "may we go?"
"You all have other work to do." said Sir Topham Hatt. "Edward will take the furniture."
James and Gordon groaned.
"Fancy sending a back engine to do an Express engine's job!" boasted Gordon.
"He'll lose the race and become useless!" said James.
Thomas and Percy were cross too. Edward was their friend, and they didn't want him to feel let down.
"Spencer has a bigger boiler." said Thomas, "but that just means more hot air."
"And a Steamie can beat any fast engine!" added in Percy.
So Edward set off, slow and steady.
"I'll do my best, I'll do my best." he puffed.
Spencer then set off at warp speed, and quickly passed Edward.
"I've won already!" he boasted.
And then at warp speed, he was gone.
Edward came to the bottom of a steep hill. The freight was heavy, and he felt very tired.
He huffed, and he puffed, and soon he was on top.
In the distance, he saw Spencer, and began chasing him at once!
Edward raced down the hill.
At Wellsworth Station, Spencer stopped to take on water, while the Duke and Duchess had tea and cakes from the Refreshment Lady.
Edward slowly came into view.
"Hurry old boy!" teased Spencer.
Edward wished he could rest too, but the stationmaster and porters had heard about the race.
"Hooray for Edward!" they cheered.
Edward picked up steam, and roared past Spencer.
Then the Duke and Duchess finished their tea, and Spencer was off in a flash.
He roared past Edward once more.
"Fast is the best, fast is the best!" he boasted.
Edward was nearly out of puff. The furniture felt heaver than ever.
Up ahead, Spencer had to stop. The Duke wanted to take some pictures of the countryside.
While the Duke was taking pictures with his camera, Spencer took a nap.
Gordon was returning to Knapford Station, when he passed Spencer.
"Edward must be losing." he said.
But when Gordon passed Edward, he felt bad about what he said.
"Well done Edward!" he called. "You are really useful and a credit to the railway!"
Edward was so happy, his boiler bubbled!
The Duke had just finished taking pictures, and he and the Duchess was back on board.
"Time to go!" called Spencer's driver.
But Spencer was fast asleep, dreaming of victory.
Spencer's driver rang the bell, and then Spencer saw Edward heading towards the summer house!
"I'm nearly there, I'm nearly there!" he gasped.
Spencer took off as fast as he could.
"Slow down!" called his driver. "These are old tracks, and you could derail!"
And so Spencer took off slowly down the line.
Now Spencer had known he had lost the race.
Edward puffed towards the summerhouse.
"I did it, I did it!" he cried.
Edward felt happier than ever, and felt proud to be a pride of the Sodor railway!
