Rucas and the Ring
By: TheAuthor44
Riley was sitting in the bay window of her parent's apartment when Lucas climbed through the window.
"Hey." He said as he crawled in and sat down next to her.
"Hey. So are you going to tell me what the big secret is that you needed to meet me here in the bay window. And why did we come to my parent's house anyways? I mean we both have apartments of our own now."
"I need your opinion on something and … well I wanted to come here because this is where you and Maya used to make all your big life decisions, and… I'm planning to make a pretty big one."
Riley could tell Lucas was nervous, they had been friends long enough for her to at least know that.
"Also it's the last place Maya would think to look for me." Lucas finished saying as he reached into his pocket.
"Lucas what's going on?"
But he didn't answer her, instead he pulled out a small leather box and held it up to Riley. She took it from his hands and opened it up to reveal a beautiful diamond engagement ring.
"Lucas … this is very sweet but, you're dating my best friend and I am very happy with Farkle." Riley joked.
"You done?" Lucas asked to which Riley nodded yes. 'Okay, you wanna give me your real reaction now?"
"YAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY!" Riley screamed causing Lucas' ears to begin ringing.
"I'll take that as you approve."
"Of course I approve! YOU AND MAYA ARE GETTING MARRIED!"
"Well I have to ask her first. Do you think she'll like it?"
"She's going to love it, because she loves you." Riley said causing Lucas to smile at the floor. After years of being in love he still felt his face go flush at the mere mention of his love with the blonde beauty.
"Thanks Riley."
"How are you going to do it? Hot air balloon? Sky writing? Spelling out 'Marry Me' in her Cheerios?"
"Cheerios?"
"So how are you doing it?"
"I don't know; I guess I was just going to wait for the right moment and then…." Lucas said gesturing to the ring box.
"Oh Lucas, sweet, naïve Lucas. You can't just wait for the right moment! You have to woo her! This is the proposal; it has to be worthy of the 'the'."
"Okay so help me. Help me make this proposal worthy of the 'the'. And Maya."
"I'd be happy to. But first." Riley said as she pulled Lucas into a tight hug.
"I'm really happy for you guys. And I wish you both the best for everything."
"Thank you Riley." Lucas said as they pulled apart. "You know, Maya and I were just … reminiscing the other day about how we got together in the first place, in the subway car. I don't think I ever really thanked you for helping me with that."
"Well when you called me on the phone from Texas, crying about how you missed Maya…"
"I wasn't crying."
"Yes you were."
"I had something in my eye."
"And how was I supposed to know that over the phone? Any who … what else was I going to do? Two of my best friends were miserable without each other. It's not exactly in my nature to let something like that go on."
"Thank you just the same. You changed my life Riley, I'm lucky to have a friend like you."
"I'm pretty lucky too. People change people, right?"
"Yeah, and rings change everything." Lucas said tearing his gaze from Riley and back down to the box in his hands.
"And it's only going to get better." Riley said as she and Lucas shared a smile.
Taking a moment to let it all sink in, before they started planning.
THE END
