Author's note ~ the first few chapters will be mainly introduction to characters and the story will begin to progress a lot more in time so just be patient and you will be rewarded! ;)
Ash's POV:
My 8:00am alarm woke me up which as usual, may have been the worst part of my day here at Kanto state university or KSU as many of the students called it. I git out of bed and began my daily routine with jumping in the shower before heading over to the campus cafeteria with my roommate Gary Oak. The cafe was usually mostly empty in the mornings because the only people currently on campus were athletes participating in fall sports. Most of the other students weren't going to be moving in for a few more days which meant the campus was extremely boring. I was really looking forward to when everyone else moved in, but it didn't really matter because most of my friends were on the football team with me, which I liked.
First there's my roommate Gary Oak, our teams third string tight end and probably one of the closest friends I've made all my life. I still don't know him all that well outside of him as a football player, but I don't want to push any of his buttons by asking him anything he doesn't want to be asked about. I don't need their to be any tension between me and a teammate, nonetheless my roommate. Next there's my green haired buddy Drew who we all call the "green goblin" (btw if you get that reference please message me lol). He plays running back but usually only saw the field last year as a kick and punt returner. He constantly talked about how he thinks he deserved to be a starter but if I were him I'd just be happy to have seen the field as a freshman at all. Then there's my friend Paul. Unlike the rest of my friends Paul is a junior and has been a starter at strong safety most of his time at KSU. He went to my high school so thanks to him I know a good amount of the players who are upperclassmen, but it's still pretty awkward around most of them considering that I am only a sophomore. Lastly there's my buddy Clemont, he's the team's manager and waterboy which is a good thing because I can't imagine him playing all that well.
As for me, I was the team's third string quarterback last year which meant I just spent games sitting on the bench with a clipboard wearing my hat instead of my helmet. This year I'm going into camp as the backup behind our senior star quarterback Chopper. He was as good of a college quarterback as I've ever seen in my lifetime. This year the team was expected to have a pretty good season and make a playoff run behind Chopper's lead. All I was trying to do was learn as much as I can so I would have a good chance to be the team's starter next year after Chopper leaves for the NFL. I was nervous though because constantly overheard the coaches talking about bringing in one of the reigion's top quarterback prospects meaning my job could be in jeopardy. I was a one year starter in high school and a walk on at KSU and I wasn't about to sit for my entire college career. All I wanted was a fair chance.
After breakfast Gary and I met up with Drew and headed over to the team's locker room to get ready for practice. I walked over to my locker and just looked at my equipment for a few seconds. It was always a fun sight to see my jersey with my last name 'Ketchum' written on it with wits my favorite number '11' right underneath it. At this point more team members were entering the locker room so I opened up my locker and got all suited up and headed out to practice.
Drew's POV:
I imagine if you asked most of the players what their favorite time of the year was I'd imagine most of them would say football season, as would I. For me though football was more than just a sport to me, it was my biggest opportunity for success. I grew up in one of the poorer families in my area. I'm the first person in my family to go to college thanks to KSU offering me a full scholarship to play football for them. All I want now is to make it to the NFL so I could give my parents a better life, and I was willing to to just about whatever it took to get there.
Gary's POV:
Football season was one of the few times in a year where I could find true happiness. Most of my life has been lived in depression because I lost both my mom and dad in a car crash when I was only six years old. I then lived with my grandpa for most of my life before coming to college at Kanto State. It's been hard living without my parents and now without my grandpa for the first time at college, which led to me begging to drink a lot. I used a fake ID my friends in high school got for me to purchase beer at local stores. I knew alcohol wasn't a long term answer for my depression but it was what I was rolling with at the time.
No POV:
The three sophomores all got suited up and ran out to the field to begin practice.
Alright guys it's good to be back! I can finally say I've thought of a story that I want to write and have a lot of ideas for so I'll try to update this as much and as often as I can!
