To His Majesty, Elendur, By the grace of the Valar, High King over Gondor and Arnor, Heir of Elendil, Lord of Minas Tirith etc.
To celebrate the second centennial of the alliance between the realms of Tristain and Gondor, I felt it was appropriate that the origins of our familial bonds be explored and retold to educate the populace. I will continue to write to you in Anuminas, as the narrative progresses as I did three years ago with my account of Elesssar and Undomiel
The tale I am about to relate is not unknown to the inhabitants of Middle-earth and Halkegenia. Both fanciful tales and bawdy drinking songs have been woven about the adventures of your late grandfather King Eldarion and his fair companions. Such accounts are most prone to gross exaggeration and are full of fanciful hearsay. What I intend to do is a straightforward narrative after the Baggins fashion that accurately sets out your late grandfather's story in Halkegenia. I was fortunate to have access to the Royal Archives of Gondor and Tristain for this purpose.
A Note on the Sources:
Your late grandfather began a personal narrative of his journeys in Tristain. From the dating it was composed late in his reign after the passing of your grandmother. Although well written and researched, it unfortunately breaks off before his arrival in Albion. Thankfully though King Eldarion drew on an earlier log he composed during his travels. This log I found among his personal papers and it forms the chief foundation of my account.
The diary of Dame Tabitha, later Queen Charlotte of Gallia, gives an invaluable insight into her perspectives and those of the Lady Kirche Auguste Friederike von Anhalt-Zerbst. It also provides details omitted from your grandfather's logs.
Bertrand Planchet's Halkegenian Chronicle was an excellent resource for the political background in the kingdoms at the time of your father's arrival and the early life of your late grandmother Queen Henrietta.
Your Lady Mother, Queen Findis sends her regards.
