A Rose and a Lily on the Riverbank
Prologue- Raindrops on Roses
It was raining. Water drops danced across the cloudy sky, leaving raindrops on roses. I pulled my hood on and trailed Lucius down a narrow street, twisting and weaving between puddles and potholes. The rain pattered down on the tin roofs, deadening all other sound. He knocked on the mahogany door and I heard footsteps heading towards us. The door swung open to reveal a pale, sallow face, with greasy black hair and dark eyes. 'Severus' he said 'may I come in?'. The man nodded and led up deep into the gloom of his house. Into my new home.
His living room was small, containing only a threadbare sofa, a table and thousands of books lining the walls. Both of them sat on the couch and I knelt nervously beside it. Lucius was offered a glass of wine which he declined and Snape turned to him. 'Why are you here old friend' he stared at him inquisitively and Lucius answered. 'The Dark Lord`s orders. He wishes to reward your loyalty' Severus laughed. 'And he sent you to convince to accept it' Malfoy grimaced and nodded. 'Very well old friend what is this reward?'. Lucius jerked his head in my direction. 'The Mudblood'.
I was shaking uncontrollably when Snape spoke. 'I have no need of slaves' he began. 'Magic is faster, more accurate and far less irritating'. Lucius sighed
'Very well, maybe this time the Dark Lord will forgive my failure' Snape shook his head. 'At least take a look at the brat' and he ripped off my cowl. And Snape froze.
