I don't think Maysilee gets enough recognition or consideration. She was sort of Haymitch's Rue, and i think she deserves some credit and appreciation. i think she is a very intriguing character even if she is only briefly mentioned and thought of.

I watched them fight from inside the bushes: Haymitch Abernanthy and District One fighting to the kill. I dip a dart into the poison I collected from a flower. The seemingly innocent and lovely arena was the greatest weapon they could have offered. The beautiful flowers with incredible aroma's that kill you in one direct sniff; the fluffy pink squirrels that are more dangerous than an armed Career Tribute; the colorful butterflies that swarm you and rip your skin off until you are nothing; the fruit that is so artfully disguised to conceal its deadly powers. One just needs to learn how to use it to their advantage and winning The Games will be much easier from there. I nearly died in my attempts to collect the poison from this plant…the golden monkeys keep guard over its harmful ways rather ferociously. But in the end I got my prize and an advantage over the others.

Haymitch is from my home, District Twelve, so I wont hurt him. Besides, I want him for an ally. He is smart enough to win, clever, handy with his weapon and why not admit it? He is handsome and I've had a crush on him for quite some time. But other than that, good looks will get us sponsors. I wouldn't be surprised if people have been tripping over themselves already to help him out. Sure, maybe taking him on as an ally is not my smartest move, seeing as it might come down to one of us having to kill the other, or watching the other die in some way after obtaining a friendship, but I don't care. I'll make the alliance worthwhile, even if it's only temporary. I'll help him out and sever the tie when it is time to go our separate ways before it comes down to the two of us for last. To be fully honest I'm rooting for him. If I don't win—I want Haymitch to. Romance should really be the last thing on my mind though. I have to stay focused if I want to survive…

I just have to wait for District one to have his back to me or be standing somewhat close to where Haymitch is now. Then I could kill him.

Haymitch begins to circle his opponent and I load the dart into the tube. This is it…

District One is right in front of my bush now. It's truly amazing how none of them have noticed me, as I'm not usually so quiet. But they haven't—to concerned about their lives I suppose. It's a pity that his is going to end now. I hate killing, and what has he done to me? Nothing. I don't want to be a murderer, a monster. But if that's what I need to do to survive then so be it. I'll do what I must; I just want to go home…

I close my eyes and bring my mouth to the blow-dart tube. I exhale forcefully into the plastic—sending the small projectile into my-and Haymitch's- enemies back. He falls to the ground in a heap and I feel a pang of remorse. Haymitch is looking around; nervously, scared, alert and on edge with his knife raised in the air as I step out of the bush. He looks slightly alarmed when he sees it's me, but relaxes slightly when I set my weapons down. He looks distrusting and he watches me warily as I slowly extend my hand for him to shake.

"Allies?" I ask, stretching my hand out further and taking a few cautious steps closer. I couldn't help but feel like I was approaching a wild and slightly feral animal. I look at him pleadingly; hopefully, with a small smile that I hope will help him decide to take me on.

He looks thoughtful for a moment before he extends his own hand and shakes mine, smiling slightly as well, much more relaxed now.

"Allies," he says.

Yes…
