Gaara wasn't sure what this feeling was. As he stared into the pale eyes of the girl before him, his stomach had knotted, and his air ways constricted his breathing to shallow, labored breaths. He truly cared for Hinata, he might even love her, but what did that mean? Love. Could he ever love anyone?
What was his inspiration? He didn't care if she had money, or was a good kisser, or even what others thought of their relationship. When he was around her, all seemed right, everything was okay, and he just focused on living in the moment; but he just couldn't do it. He couldn't say "I love you." back.
"I'm..sorry..."
The girl looked up at him, her light smile slowly fading.
"You're appealing to emotions that I simply do not have.
I don't want to hurt you.
I don't think I could ever love you, or anyone else."
Long, midnight blue tendrils slapped him in the face as the girl turned sharply away from him to hide her silent tears. He knew he had hurt her, even though he had tried his best not to. The sand nin came up behind the leaf and wrapped his arms around her. She dove into his chest as if there was no tomorrow. To her there might not be, for that day, her heart shattered.
"We c-can...st-still be...fr-friends...c-can't we, Gaa-kun?" her soft lips stuttered as sadness choked her heart and sent tears gliding down her face.
"You're better off without me. I would just end up hurting you again."
He stroked her hair and said goodbye to any happiness he had obtained.
The only ring being buried with him were to be the ones around his eyes.
