Katara woke to the sound of pained cries. It echoed down from down the hall. She looked over at her husband who she saw had woken as well. With a worried and knowing glance at each other, they swung their legs over the edge of their bed and made for their robes.

Katara and Zuko stepped silently through the hall down to the nursery. The whole time in silence.
They entered a dimly lit room. The only source of light came from a weak flame which flickered from an oil lamp residing on a side table. Even though the light was small, it still illuminated the tossing form in the bed. Katara and Zuko quickly rushed over to their daughter. Katara lifted Kaya from her bed and set her down on her lap, arms holding the girl against her chest. Katara began to rock her child, speaking in hushed tones words of affection and reassurance. Zuko came and sat next to her, His arms circling both his daughter and wife in a protective manner. The small family stayed like this until Kaya settled back into a peaceful sleep. Carefully they laid her back into her bed. Zuko leaned forward to tuck the girl in, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead in the meantime.

Sending one last look at Kaya they slowly walked back to their bedroom. This had become a regular routine at night for the couple and was taking its toll on them slowly. Tiredly they got back in bed, pulling up the covers. Zuko pulled Katara against his chest, his arms around her reassuringly. He sighed as he laid his head on top of hers.
"She hasn't been the same since Azula got her, is she" Katara choked out, a tear escaping her closed eyes. Zuko couldn't think of anything to say at this point.
"I know" he said placing a kiss in her hair. A tear slid down from his scarless eye.
