Short drabble. Emma centric. Please excuse if there are any mistakes. I do not have a Beta. Happy reading!
Emma was not loved as a child. She didn't receive hugs or kisses or even an "have a good day at school." She got food, a roof over her head, and that was it. So when Henry tells her, his life sucks she wants to shake him and tell him to shut up and suck it up.
(She also never really grew up and still uses violence and actions to get her way or make something clear. Words are not her thing.)
But she doesn't because he is a kid and they are somehow related. ( she has no idea how a kid like Henry could be hers. In her mind he is not hers at all. He is all Regina's cause she raised him. Henry would not agree but Emma is 100% sure.)
Regina on the other hand thinks Emma wants to steal Henry from her. Which is absurd because Emma is pretty irresponsible and Henry wouldn't survive a week with her, hell two days max. No it would be best if he just stayed with Regina and grows up to become a well adjusted member of society. (Without the fairytale delusions please!)
Henry would never be able to become a well adjusted member of society if Emma raised him, simply because Emma wasn't one. So when Emma asks if Regina loves Henry and she answers with a "Yes of course." Emma believes her, her gut tells her to believe her, her special gift tells her to believe her, but Emma needs proof. More than she already has. She needs actions instead of words.
And what better way to get proof than to hang around and see for herself, so that's what she does. Hangs around, watches, and waits for a reaction from Regina.
And boy did she get a reaction, Regina hates her. Emma is pleased with this, easier to get the proof she needs. So she pushes and irritates and does crazy stuff and it isn't until she caught sheriff Graham climbing out of a window (really a window? How is this quicker and quieter than using the front door?) that she recognizes the feeling in her gut as something else than the need for proof.
It's hurt. It's been a while since she has been hurt. Physically yes, emotionally, no not really. Not really since Henry's birth. Emma simply doesn't care.
Well she used to not care, because after the night with the sheriff climbing out of the WINDOW, she needs to determine what to do with the plan. She wasn't ready to become emotionally invested in Henry or Regina. The proof she was looking for? Not just for herself, after some reflection Emma can safely say she wanted to show Henry, that Regina loved him.
God, she is worried about Regina and Henry. Their weird family dynamic and she wants them both to be happy with each other. Emma is absolutely sure she is fucked up and really just wants to pack her stuff and leave before she infects anyone else with her fucked up ness.
But first she needs to explain. Maybe it's time to use words instead of actions this time.
