Lilly Potter stood with the rest of the newest Hogwarts students in a line waiting to be sorted. She saw her two older brothers James and Albus looking at her from the Gryffindor table. James gave her thumbs up. Secretly Lilly liked James the better of her two brothers but she would never say it aloud. Ever since her father had told her who she and her brother were named after, it gave her a sense of pride to carry the name Lilly Potter. Albus was busy looking at his newest "interest" a girl in Ravenclaw. Lilly did not know her name and she did not want to. She felt like she was losing her brother to this girl and hated her for it. Next Lilly saw her cousin and best friend Rosie Weasley. Rosie was two years older than Lilly and to Lilly; she was like a big sister. Lilly was snapped out of her daydream by the sound of a teacher saying the first name on the list.

"Abbot, Ellen" called the teacher. Lilly looked up and recognized the teacher. James and Albus had talked all about him. He was a friend of their parents in school and his name was Neville Longbottom.

The sorting hat called out Hufflepuff and Ellen quickly moved to the correct table. Soon it was Lilly's turn. When Potter, Lilly was called she heard the smallest hush from the students. She was expecting this as her brothers had both said they got it too. Then something she did not expect happened. She got a look from a boy at the Slytherin table. He looks like his father she thought as she walked up to the sorting hat. Lilly had met Scorpius Malfoy two years ago when she went to drop off Albus to the train, she hadn't liked him then and she didn't like him now. But the look wasn't a look of hatred or even dislike. It was almost as though he was looking at her like Albus looked at that girl from Ravenclaw. She shook off the feeling and sat down and put the oversized hat on her head. She heard a voice coming from the hat. It was telling her what it saw.

"Courage, smarts, adventure" said the little voice only she could hear.

"Not Slytherin" whispered Lilly

"Are you sure?" asked the voice

"Not Slytherin" she said louder

"Ok, then its GRYFFENDOR" shouted the hat

Lilly jumped up and ran cheering to sit between James and Rosie. She gave her brother a high five and waited for the sorting to be finished. When the sorting was done the plates in front of them suddenly filled with food. Lilly, Rosie and James ate fitfully. Then as they were dismissed Lilly saw Scorpius coming toward her. She tried to get in front of James but Scorpius got there first.

"Can I talk to you?" he asked somewhat shyly

"Ok" she answered simply

He pulled her into a dark corner and then said something totally unexpected.

"Wouldyouliketogotothethreebroomstickssometime?" He asked

"What?" answered Lilly.

"Would you like to go to the three broomsticks sometime?" he said again more slowly then he turned beet red and said "never mind"

Then he turned and fled down a corridor that she supposed led to the Slytherin common room.

'Lilly where did you go" called Rosie

"I'm here" she called back

"Come on lets get to bed" said Rosie

"Yea" answered Lilly still looking the way Scorpius had gone
