Sherlock made people think he didn't care about what was said to him. He let it roll right off of him for the simple fact he was a self-proclaimed sociopath. But when he and John traded Is for Us he started caring about what was said because he cared about John. John was smart, and caring and his everything so if anyone ever said anything Sherlock would glare at them for it.
It shut them up but what they usually said was 'How can you stand him?' John and Sherlock's relationship was secret to nearly everyone. Mycroft, Mrs. Hudson, Angelo. Sherlock was harsh yes and blunt most of the time But John brought out the good in him. Made him laugh and smile.
They help each other. Sherlock is always there when John needs him most. When John wakes up from Nightmares Sherlock is there to ease him into sleep again. They were good together and sometimes when it started to show at a crime scene they would have to stand on far sides of the room. Donovan and Anderson still complained about Sherlock and called him freak. But when he finally put them down to the level they really belonged.
They started talking about John and weren't to quiet about it.
"Couple of fags they are." Anderson said.
"Shut up." Sherlock said in a warning tone. John couldn't here them.
"What's that Freak don't like us talking about that faggot sold-"
"I said shut up." Sherlock growled grabbing Anderson by his suit and smashing his back into the wall. Sherlock did not look like much for he was tall and thin but he had strength.
"Sherlock let him go." John said.
Anderson had fear in his eyes as Sherlock's eyes darkened with anger and hate. John's arm came around his waist. "Let him go Sherlock." John told him.
Sherlock let go of Anderson relaxing into John's warmth as the other arm came around him. Sherlock balled up his fist and punched Anderson in his face.
"You ever call him a fag again and I will kill you." Sherlock said.
"Come on we're going home." John led Sherlock away from the scene and the case.
Anderson and Donavon never showed up at a case that Sherlock was working because Lestrade would not welcome such talk. He congratulated the two with a smile.
