Set after Insurgent and during Catching Fire
TRIS
"That is stupid and reckless!" Tobias shouts, pacing angrily in an abandoned room in Dauntless headquarters. He spins around to face me, jabbing a finger towards me. "You promised you weren't going to be reckless anymore!"
"Tobias," I'm surprised I sound so calm. "We need to figure out what's behind the gates."
A dark laugh escapes the eighteen year old boy. "No, we don't."
"Yes," I persist. "Unless we find out the truth, this chaos will continue."
Tobias grows silent.
"And what if you get hurt?" He doesn't even try to contain the trembling in his voice.
My eyes shift to the ground, and I feel my cheeks get hot.
After so many months of being together, I'm still not used to someone, a stranger, caring so much for me.
"I don't know," I admit. "But you have to stay here; you're the only one I trust to lead this place while I'm gone."
"I'm going with you," he says firmly.
"I'll be fine," I say just as firm. Tobias laughs.
"No, I'm not asking. I'm going with you. I already talked to Cristina; she'll run things while we're gone."
I scowl, and anger clutches at my gut. "You can't just go behind my back and—" I begin to shout, but Tobias cuts me off.
"It's getting late, we should get going." he says dismissively. My scowl deepens, my jaw clenching tight. But as Tobias turns to walk out the hallway, picking up his hidden backpack from his closet, I have no choice but to follow, and pick up my own pack from the dresser.
And as Tobias opens the door for me to slip out, I swear I catch him grinning in satisfaction.

The gates don't look unfamiliar.
Long ago, I had visited them, when I was barely an initiate in Dauntless.
Before, they had looked huge and mysterious, almost forbidden.
Now they look minuscule compared to the huge world that lay ahead. Just the thought of it gave me vertigo.
Beatrice Prior was scared for her life.
A dark laugh bubbles inside of me. It wouldn't be the first time.
Suddenly someone grips my hand tightly. I turn to see Tobias smiling at me reassuringly. His eyes spoke different, though, in his eyes he was terrified.
Instead of relief, more dread creeped down my spine.
"Alright, open them," Tobias commanded, and a few of the Dauntless members that accompanied us opened them for us.
I sucked in my breath, and together, Tobias and I stepped into the outside world.
So I decided to take on the challenge of writing my first ever crossover, and nonetheless to my favorite dystopian novels, Divergent and The Hunger Games. Did I do okay? Amazing? Terrible? Let me know, and please review!
Thanks for reading!
