Behind The Mask
Kaoru's P.O.V.
Behind the mask is where your true self lies.
It hides your faults and changes your appearance to the outside world.
Anyone who happens to look your way…
Well, let us just say, that they will not be seeing
Anything that you do not want them to see.

You use the mask to your heart's content,
But you do not mean to fool anyone.
You are just doing what you feel you need to do,
To survive and maintain the peace in this extensive world.
No hard feelings, I understand.

Because I wear the mask, too.
It's there, when I need it to be.
The mask that arises whenever I feel insecure,
When I am worried and don't want to worry the others,
I'm sure you've noticed.

I want you to know that although
The mask hides our imperfections from the outside world,
And makes life easier to deal with
On so many levels,
There is also a time to let go of the mask.

And now that you're home,
You can stop wearing the mask.
Because when it's just you and I,
There's no need to hide anymore.
I will not judge you for your past.

You've come to mean a lot to me.
So, if when we are together
You take your mask off,
I'll promise you forever,
That I'll never pull my mask on,
To hide myself from you.

And so remember,
When you are hiding your true self from the outside world,
Not showing what you really feel or who you really are,
When you are home,
There's no need to hide,
For I have discovered that,
Behind the mask is where your true self lies.
