A quick concoction in less than ten minutes. It's been floating around in my head for a while, now.

Scar

Neji watched as his lover slept lightly, her back bared to him.

Shinobi did not like distinguishing features. Unfortunately for Neji, he did not have a choice. Tenten, however, did have a choice- and he was surprised to see that she had chosen to get a tattoo.

There was her ANBU mark, of course, a black widow on her left ankle, and another tattoo on her right ankle. Neji smirked as he remembered the time when she'd had to go undercover in Suna. To prove her loyalty to the rest of the group she'd been sent to spy on- they'd called themselves the Black Widow, typically- she had been forced to have the mark drawn onto her skin. Most days it was hidden by her shoes. Right now, however, she could hide nothing from Neji's eyes.

On her right ankle, though, there was a tiny tattoo of two intertwining dragons. She had gotten it the day that she'd become a Chuunin; the Soushouryuu technique had won her the title of Chuunin, despite the fact that she had not won her match.

There was a light line down her right calf. A bandit had attempted to hamstring her when they'd first been Genin. He had failed when she'd jumped away first, but not before he'd left a slightly deep gash. She had simply bandaged it and walked back to Konoha to get it stitched. It had healed swiftly, but the scar tissue still remained.

Upon her right shoulder blade was a scar that might as well have said Neji's name. The Hyuuga kissed it lovingly as if to express his regret. Years ago, Neji had been drugged while on a mission. In his drug-induced insanity, he had picked up a poisoned blade planted by the enemy and had tried to stab Tenten through the heart, thinking she was an assassin. He had missed, but the damage had been done. Gai-sensei had knocked Neji unconscious while Lee had removed his weights and rushed Tenten to the hospital. When she woke up, the first thing she had asked about was Neji.

Shinobi did not like distinguishing features.

But Tenten loved how each mark told a story, so she kept them.

Neji didn't mind.
