Setting Sun
Neal sat on the wooden railing of the dock; his shoeless feet were hanging over the edge, swaying at an empty rhythm. Beneath him was a small fishpond filled with orange koi. Neal stared in amazement at the dazzling sunset reflected by the lucid water. The sun was a faint orange-red color, leaving a pink streak on the clouds nearby.
It was a windy day, causing the clouds to move rapidly across the beautiful horizon. Neal's hair flowed gently in the slight gust. A small smirk of longing and sadness appeared upon Neal's face as he heard faint angelic footsteps approaching from behind him. Neal felt a sweet breeze tingle his neck.
Neal gazed across the pond and into the distance. There were three kids playing, two boys and one girl; they were all about the age of thirteen.
"I wonder what it was like to have friends, to have no worries, to live in my own little world. What I would give to have those memories."
But Neal isn't it a blessing, to start over, to forget all your troubles? You are free of past regrets while I am full of grief, oh what I could have done differently. Count your blessings Neal, because you wish for a curse…
