Disclaimer: I do not own any part of the Three Musketeers movies.
A/N: This is in response to the second challenge located in the forum. I'm not sure if its my official entry or not. This may not stay up very long. From the 1993 Disney version, with hints of the 2011.
"You didn't tell me your name!" the young man, d'Artagnan, called out.
For half a second, the young lady in waiting hesitated. Then, with a laugh, she responded, "Constance."
Looking very amused, Queen Anne was waiting for the the young woman just past the bridge. "A brave young man," the queen commented, guiding her mount next to Constance's. For a moment, they walked the horses. "I do hope my bodyguards recover. My husband won't like to hear that I am unprotected."
"Unprotected, Your Majesty? When I am armed?" Constance responded. She lifted her pistol and became very serious as she looked at it. "I didn't even think! I just reacted. I never thought I would ever...need to use a weapon against anyone."
Shaking her head, Queen Anne reigned in her horse. "Constance, the fact that you did react as you did just proves how capable you are to handle my assignment," the queen said earnestly as Constance paused next to her. "You and the other ladies in waiting are my last line of defense! What would have happened if that young man had been a threat? My bodyguards, that Cardinal Richelieu and my husband insisted that I have, were useless."
Constance sighed. "I still don't see how a group of young women will be able to make a difference," she said honestly.
Smiling kindly, the queen reached over and touched the pistol. "This was a start," Anne responded. "Now, since there is still no sign of my bodyguards, we should return to the palace before we are missed."
"What would the king say if he knew you've trained your ladies in waiting to be your own personal guard?" Constance called out as the two horses sprang forward. "I know how the court would react! Young women armed with knives and pistols? Unheard of!"
The queen laughed. "Not so, Constance," she said. "What of this mysterious lady assassin we've heard rumors of? If Louis can have his Musketeers and the Cardinal his Guard, I think I can have my own protection. My ladies in waiting can be with me in my chambers, which no man, save for Louis himself, is allowed to enter."
"True," Constance said. "Shall we race back?"
With a pleased laugh, the queen spurred her horse faster. The two women raced across the French country
A/N: Yeah. Not my best work. I think I'll figure something else out later. But I did want to get this out of my head.
