The Forest on Fire (Rocketshipping one shot)

Author's note: Hey guys! This is my first ever fanfic and I'm so excited! Without further ado, Rocketshipping ahead!

James' point of view

We trudged up the muddy path, with Meowth grumbling, Jessie constantly checking her face in her small mirror, and me trying not to faint or fall asleep.

The moon lit our way. Jessie asked me for the millionth time,

"What's the time, James?"

I replied, "11:46."

She sighed, her face shining in the moonlight. I could see the beads of sweat on her face, and I felt bad for overworking them.

"Guys, we just have to catch up to Ash and that dratted Pikachu. If we don't do it now, we'll never do it. They'll be too far ahead. So bear with this for just a little while."

I silently pleaded to my body to keep walking for a little longer. Jessie glared at me, and I willed my brain not to melt at her unflinching gaze. She was too busy glaring to see where she was going though, and she tripped over a rock the next moment. I caught her so she wouldn't fall, and she blushed. Uh oh. Was I actually holding Jessie?!

She sped forward, probably so I wouldn't see her blush. Meowth stopped his grumbling and smirked.

"Why doncha do something about it, Jimmy boy?" he asked in a low voice.

I kicked him away as usual.

"James! What's the time?" Jessie asked for the billionth time. I checked my new watch (which we could barely afford).

"11:47." I replied. Suddenly I noticed a warm orange glow.

"Hey, is that Ash's camp?" I asked Meowth.

The glow became brighter.

Uh oh.

"I don't think so…. Should we run?" asked Meowth.

I gulped. "We better!"

We all ran as fast as we could. Jessie lagged behind, she was already tired from all that walking I supposed. Suddenly she tripped.

She got up to reveal a big bleeding gash. But there was no time for that.

I pushed Meowth. "Go, go!" He scampered away on his tiny legs.

I held Jessie's hand and ran. When she stumbled again, I carried her bridal style. She was very light, but I was tired.

The fire was almost upon us, I could feel the heat. Suddenly Jessie seemed to gain some energy, she jumped down and pushed me into a river.

"I'll always be with you, James."

The next thing I remembered was Meowth's worried face peering down at me. I coughed some water out of my mouth and sat up. "Where's Jessie?"

He turned the other side, and he didn't reply.

I looked around. The grass was singed, smoke was spreading, and….

NO!

NOT JESSIE! ANYONE BUT HER!

I couldn't take it anymore. I jumped into the river, though Meowth would probably pull me out again.

I felt a few drops on my face. I opened my eyes.

Jessie! My heart leaped. Her concerned face peered down at me, and she was sprinkling water.

Don't tell me.. It was all a dream?

I looked into her eyes.

I could see it burning in there. The Forest of Fire.
