TRUE DETECTIVE
CRUSIFICATION
Present Day - South Louisiana
'Rust what are you so god dam nervous about?'
I fidget even more so aware this man beside me knows me way to well as I respond:
'History is repeating itself Marty and it's your daughter who is missing.'
Cohle gives me a direct glare as I answer on typical form:
'Yeah it don't mean she is dead though and you're the one who remarried his ex-wife and got a kid on the way.'
Our gaze crosses a flicker of pain showing in Cohle's eyes to his long dead child as my thoughts flinch to my oldest child. Rust picking up on it:
'You told me once that we got the one we needed yet where I'm standing now.
Those left won't let us walk this earth for much longer either.'
The words die and they're to harsh as I turn to look at the tree in front of us, one way to familiar to us both. Where it all began all those years before and though it's part of mother earth and a thing of beauty.
Evil has tainted it that the tree itself is now dying as Hart mutters something beyond my hearing with him now voicing it a lot louder:
'It reads like a copycat killing but this is the work of no copycat, they wanted us both here and you think my daughter is alive don't you Rust?'
The fear in the voice gives that of a father who is way to close to the edge, as I nod not trusting my voice with him maintaining eye contact:
'I thought so she's dead isn't she?'
This time I stop what I am doing aware the notes are mirroring those of years before as I reply:
'Marty don't go there.'
