It Wasn't Chocolate, but It Would Do

It was about one o'clock, Thursday afternoon when Pam walked into the break room in desperate need of a chocolaty morsel. She strolled in and pulled seventy-five cents out of the small pocket of her skirt. Not really paying attention, she made a move to deposit the coins in the vending machine. Then, a hand on her shoulder pulled her back.

"Why don't you try G5." Jim said. It was more of a command then a statement.

"Oh, really? And why would I do that?" Pam questioned with her thousand-watt smile, her eyes sparkling into his.

He simply smirked at her and said, "Trust me."

So she did.

She turned her eyes back to the vending machine and found 'G5'. Needless to say, she did not expect what she found. There, in the candy holder, was a black velvet box, one that she could only assume held a very important piece of jewelry. Either that, or Jim was messing with her mind again, which was highly likely.

She immediately turned her eyes back to him. He was still wearing his adorable, over-confident, 'Jim' smirk. The one that made her go weak in the knees and fall in love with him all over again.

"Now Pam," he started. "Although I love a girl who doesn't mind paying for things," he joked eyeing the quarters in her hand, "I'm gonna have to insist that I pay for your ring."

Her eyes grew as big as saucers, as she almost unknowingly stepped out of his way. He inserted the correct amount of change, and a familiar plunk was heard as the box dropped into the dispenser. Jim reached in and pulled the box out, and ushered for Pam to sit down. She did, and he proceeded to get down on one knee.

She could tell he was nervous by the look in his eyes. And his overly-confident smirk had faded quickly into an unsure smile. It was then that she truly realized that this was real.

"Now I know I said that I wouldn't do this here," he stammered a bit, trying to contain his emotion, "but, I realized how stupid that was once I said it. I realized that the only place I could do this was here. This is where I first met you and realized that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. I asked you out on our first date right over there." He said pointing to the conference room. "This is where we shared our first kiss and where I first told you how much I loved you and needed you in my life. And my feelings towards you have only become stronger since that night two years ago." He gulped a bit, and swallowed back his tears. Pam did not even attempt to hold back hers. "I know I'm not anything special, and I know you deserve so much more than what I can give you. But I also know that I will spend my entire life trying to give you what you deserve, if you'll let me. So, Pamela Morgan Beesly," Jim let a tear fall, "will you marry me?"

Pam looked at him, her eyes glassy with her pooling tears. She giggled and smiled brightly as she whispered "Yes."

She reached out and wrapped her arms around his neck as he tightly gripped her waist. As they pulled apart, grinning like mad, Jim wiped away Pam's tears with his thumb and brought her in for a kiss.

It wasn't chocolate, but this would definitely do.
