He could hear small scratching noises coming from the front of his desk. The colonel peered around his paperwork curious as to whom or what was making the noises since Hayate knew not to scratch things.
He stood and moved around the office still unable to locate the noise maker. That's when he noticed the small golden ball of fluff clambering up his desk. When the tiny menace made it to the top he pounced on the feathered quill, lunging and tearing at it with determination to destroy.
Taken aback Roy hurried to his quills rescue from its tiny offender. He used only his thumb and forefinger to pick the feline up by the scruff of its neck like its mother would do. It continued its battle only now against Roy' fingers.
"Whoa little guy calm down" Roy cried as the small creature sank its tiny fangs into his thumb.
The kitten went still pitifully small held up by the man. It mewed at him angry and helpless.
"Hush you little devil, I wont hurt you" the colonel murmured raising his other hand slowly to reach out and pet the cat with his finger tips. It snapped at him and attempted to hiss sounding more like a chocked off cough. Roy found himself chuckling at the poor thing which in turn glared daggers at him.
Trying once more he succeeded in patting the kitten lightly on the head. It blinked at him and tried to press into the touch.
Roy found himself laughing sitting crossed legged on the floor cradling the now purring puff ball as he stroked it with gentle fingers. It arched and writhed wantonly for his touch purring all the while.
This is how Riza, Winry and Havoc found him 15 minutes later…
"Oh my lord!" Riza exclaimed bursting into giggles. Havoc stood blankly staring at his C.O and Winry sighed.
"Edo I've found you! Al was so worried" She scorned at the kitten. The tiny thing wriggled out of the colonels hands and looked up at her with a slightly guilty expression. She was just about to pick him up when he started to shiver violently.
"Oh shit not here!!" Winry cried, Al burst into the room. He took one look at the kitten and slammed the door behind himself.
"If anyone dares say anything to anyone about what you will witness right now I will not hesitate to kill you." Al warned, his usually calm voice lost and replaced by a dangerous and cold tone. They stared at him in shock. The cat was glowing slightly now and it seemed to be…changing…into a man… The figure cried out in pain. There lay shivering and whimpering on the floor a very scared, very naked Edward Elric.
