Home is Where the Heart is at Rest

It was a damp summer night in the tenth century and Albus Severus Potter couldn't sleep, and for once it wasn't because of either Ted's snoring or Godric's insistence on hogging the furs.

Today they'd finally arrived on the other side of the Forbidden Forest and Albus and Teddy had seen their first glimpse of Hogwarts in close to thirteen years and Albus, like a kid on the night before Christmas, was too wired with excitement to sleep.

Rationally he knew that the castle itself would take time to appear, but Rowena and Salazar were already debating the finer points of the spellwork that would go into the wards and Helga had been bent over sketched building schematics with the dwarven stonemasons and wheedled a number of recipies out of their wives.

Finally it was starting, Albus couldn't help but think gleefully. After thirteen long years of wandering the length and breadth of Europe keeping his lovers out of trouble it seemed that they were going to settle down, stay in one place for longer than it took to take care of the neighbouring dragon or rescue the annoyingly and inappropriately grateful damsels in distress.

Better than all that though was that they were going to be settling down in Hogwarts. The castle had always held a special place in Al's heart, he almost felt like he belonged there better than he had at home and had always intended to get a teaching job there after he graduated. He hadn't though, he hadn't even technically graduated. There'd been that dark wizard, then Ted's death and the crazy quest to get him back and then there'd been ending up in the past and the quest to find a way back to the present—the long and the short of it was Albus had almost given up hope he'd make it back home.

And maybe he wouldn't, not in the traditional sense anyway, but this was close enough. He had Teddy, he had Godric and he had their friends and now he had a place he'd be more than happy to stay for the rest of his life.

And quite frankly he couldn't wait to get started living it.
