A Friend's Comfort

Noah Seville was returning home from a Green Lantern mission when Brittany, the eldest Chipette approached him. "Hey, Noah, Jeanette had a rough day. Would you mind helping her out? Simon stayed after school to talk to Dr. Rubin about...well, talk to Jeanette and you'll find out." she said. Noah nodded. Suddenly, Noah heard a familiar sound come from upstairs. "Round 1. Fight!" It was the sound of his favorite video game Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. Noah's anger rose. No one was allowed to touch his game without his okay, and everyone knew it.

Noah ran up the stairs, his power ring glowing with energy. He ran into his room, ring blazing. What he saw put the glow out faster that Theodore eats Toaster waffles. Jeanette, Noah's best friend, was playing as Kitana, blue-clad ninja princess of Outworld. And, Noah hated to admit, she was kicking virtual tail. Then Noah noticed that Jeanette had tears in her eyes and she was...cursing as she wailed on her virtual opponent. "Damn popular girls...no-good assholes...who the..." Jeanette was interrupted by Noah clearing his throat.

"Hey, Jean, are you okay?" he asked. "Fine, Noah. Why do you ask?" Jeanette asked, as Kitina ripped off the head of her opponent. "Well, you're using my favorite video game to vent out what seems like great pain, you're swearing, which I've never heard you do before, and you have tears in your eyes." Noah said, sitting down next to Jeanette. "C'mon, Jean, you can talk to me. I'm your best friend. I'm here for you, always." Noah said.

Jeanette sighed as she turned off the game. "Well, after you flew off on your mission, the popular girls, you know, the ones who have crushes on you and your brothers, cornered my sisters and I after school and let us have it. At first, we weren't offended until...until..." Jeanette stopped, tears streaming down her face. "What, Jeanette? What happened?" Noah asked. Jeanette looked at Noah, sad emerald eyes meeting kind yet strong emerald eyes. "They...pushed me down and told me that...our parents abandoned us as newborns because they knew I'd become a nerd with no talent or beauty." Jeanette sobbed. Noah's eyes glowed green as his anger rose. But he couldn't lose control. Not now. His best friend needed him.

Noah wrapped his arms around Jeanette and pulled into a comforting hug. "Jeanette Elizabeth Miller, don't listen to those spoiled, stuck-up, poofy lipped, anorexic Barbie wannabes. You have many talents. You can sing like an angel." he said. Jeanette looked at Noah, a small smile crossing her lips. "Aren't you being a bit dramatic, Noah?" she asked. "Hey, I died and went to Heaven. I know how the angels sing. You sound just like them. better than them even. One even said so. Besides your beautiful voice, you're also one of the smartest people I know. Who else can get a 120% on an Irish History Quiz without studying?" Noah asked. Jeanette laughed as she lightly pushed Noah to the side. "You and Annabeth, silly." she said. Noah laughed as well. "Oh yeah." he said.

Jeanette hugged Noah. "Thanks, Noah. This talk helped me out." she said. "No prob, bestie. But...I'm still gonna kill you for touching my game." Noah said. Jeanette laughed as she took off running, Noah close behind her. Sure, Jeanette would be dead soon, but at least she was happy.
