With You Always
Smooth bubble gum pink and brown leather, deeply creased as a result of being shoved into bag after bag. The once pristine striped fabric that hugs the book tightly together is now dirty from use. My name intricately engraved in silver can be seen in the bottom right hand corner on the front cover. The crinkling Velcro is loud as a bomb in the dead silent room when I rip apart the fabric strip. My fingers gently flit through the thin pages of the greatest book I've ever read. I naturally turn to the book of Matthew and look at the passage layered in neon yellow to make it stand out from the page as much as possible. In pink is the heading "The Great Commission," written above in bold, black, capital letters is "THE CAUSE." My purpose in life. My mission. A broad smile takes residence on my lips as I read the words "And surely I am with you always." I run my pointer finger over the words and whisper them to myself, memorizing them so I will never forget that my God is with me always. Instinctively, my fingertips flip through pages looking for my favorite verse but instead I fall on a page that says "In Focus" and bellow that "Profile: Mickey." Intrigued at the sight of my nickname, I pause to read the hot pink words. Tears fill my eyes as I realize that it is my story. I am the girl who feels lonely in a room crowded with people. I am the girl who fakes a smile when all she wants to do is cry. The pages turned at a speed I did not think humanly possible and once again I read the small black words heavily highlighted in yellow, "And surely I am with you always."
