It had been a success, Katara decided, even after the school officials broke up the festivities. If we could make those kids happy, show them how it felt to be free for even a short time...
She idly poked the dying campfire with a stick. Aang had seemed like a completely different person...well, maybe not completely, but he was so confident, so self-assured...dare she say, smooth. Their dance replayed in her mind, and she blushed. Definitely a success.
"Katara?"
"Oh! Hey, Aang...nice moves out there tonight," she said.
"I'm just sorry it's over. Tomorrow those kids have to go back to their boring lives, they'll never get to have fun like that again," Aang sighed.
"I know, but what you did for them really made a difference," Katara reminded him. Aang smiled, extending his hand.
"You know...the party doesn't have to be completely over. Not for us, at least," he said. "Toph and Sokka went into town to get more supplies. So..."
She stood up, taking his hand.
"I'd love to."
And so they danced again, by the light of the dimming fire, in perfect silence.
