Cries in the Silence

Katara lay there in the large and opulent bed amidst the thick crimson silks, staring up into darkness. She did not hear her own soft breathing or that of the Fire Lord's even as his arm was around her middle and his mouth mere inches away from her ear.
What she heard, when she closed her eyes, was Aang's whispered vows of love, his happy laughter, his gentle words of comfort. What she felt was his carefree embrace, his kisses as light as air, a tenderness that matched his innate purity of heart whenever they had coupled.
Zuko did similar things to show her his affection and love, but with a passion that engulfed both of them. He was most certainly not innocent or gentle as the Avatar. While he was tender at times, even then his fierceness smoldered in his eyes and when he was rough… he truly was his element, fire incarnate. His heat had consumed her over and over, leaving her always marked by him. And it would always consume her.
But in the silence, even after all these years she always heard Aang. And what kept her up at night was the searing memory of his anguished cries when the Fire Lord had taken her away.
