Chapter one

The feeling of a cool hand carding through my hair causes me to stir as I realize it's just mom,meaning she's waking me because the nurse is here to check my vitals again. "Easy Nicky, I need you to wake up for a few minutes mijo, the nurse is here"she murmurs softly, "Ok mami"I murmur,forcing myself to wake up,despite the pain medicine making me sleepy and out of it. I got shot in the shoulder today, it could've been alot worse,I lost a lot of blood,it hit an artery,but due to Liv's and amanda's quick thinking,getting pressure on it and calling for backup and an ambulance,I've made it this far,I know the doctor told mom that I might not make it through the night,that I lost so much blood,and my heart rate went down,but they've gotten me stabilized since then,got the bullet out in the OR.

I feel her wrap an arm around my back,then she and the nurse help me sit up,putting a pillow behind my back,and my head. It hurts,and I know it will hurt for awhile, "ow,it hurts"I murmur grimacing in discomfort,"I know,easy mijo, do you need some more medicine"she asks rubbing my uninjured shoulder gently,"I'm ok mami,it's fading now"I say softly as I feel her sit on my otherside,to give the nurse room. "How are you feeling tonight "she asks softly as I see her look at my iv,then reaches for the thermometer,"I've been better, and please just call me Nick"I murmur softly as I feel her place the thermometer against my temple. "Ok Nick, has the pain meds been making you feel nauesous at all"she asks as I hear the thermometer beep. "A little bit"I murmur as I sense mom give me that look,the tell the truth look. "Mijo"she says softly, "Ok,alot actually"I murmur,"Ok,I'll give you some antinausea meds here in a bit,do you need to use the restroom while I'm here"she asks as I see her grab a bed pan, "yeah,I can at least try"I murmur.

"Ok, I'm going to help you sit up on the edge of the bed alright"she asks as I see her pull the sheet down. I let her help me,along with mami,to get me sitting up on the edge of the bed as I take in a deep breath,oh god it hurts like hell. "Easy Nicky,I know it hurts carino,breath for me a minute alright"she murmurs as I feel her rub my back in comfort. I let the nurse undo my gown,trying to ignore how embarassing this is,I know it's my mom,she's seen this all beofre,but still. I do my buisness with the nurses help,then they lay me back down onto my back. She sets the bedpan on the counter,puts on a new pair of gloves,then grabs a vial of medicine. She comes oer then injects it in my IV, antinausea meds,then looks over everything one more. Then she's done for the moment.

"Alright,I'm done for the moment,how about you try to get some more sleep ok,I'll be back by in an hour or so,press the call button if you need anything"she says as she throws her gloves away. "Ok"I murmur as I feel mom rub my back softly as I see her open the door and leaving. We sit in quiet for awhile until I finally feel like saying something. "Mami"I ask soflty, "shh what it is it mijo"she asks running her fingers through my hair. "I'm sorry to have worried you so much tonight,does Zara know yet"I ask softly, "It's alright carino,it's not your fault,yeah they know,she'll be here sometime tomorrow,now try to get some sleep mijo"she murmurs, "Ok Mami"I murmur. After this we settle into comfortable scielence,and before I know it I'm out like a light again,the sensation of a cool hand rubbing my back keeping me grounded,remiding me I'm safe.
