Entertaining Ronnie

DS Ronnie Brooks was a little embarrassed of his thoughts at this moment. And many people - most of the station included - would say, rightly so.

Although, of course, having said this, they would most likely proceed to do exactly the same thing.

It wasn't the first time – and it almost definitely wouldn't be the last – that Ronnie had taken a minute out of his busy day to watch the pair of them. He lay back comfortably in his wheelie chair, arms crossed, staring straight at them. Had there been anyone else in the office, he would have made sure to be inconspicuous about it, but there wasn't. Of course, he had a cover story ready on the tip of his tongue, but he doubted that either of them would notice, far too engrossed in the conversation.

He let a small smile slip out as Matt Devlin's hand sub-consciously grazed Alesha's. Both of them laughed, apparently amused at a shared joke. It was still early in the day, but they really should have been working. Alesha had come over from the CPS to discuss a case, but against his better judgement, Ronnie couldn't bring himself to break up their little party.

He shook his head to himself as Matt's smile grew, fuelled by Alesha's. He couldn't help but notice that there was only very little space between them, as though any unnecessary distance was spared. Ronnie was absolutely certain that he was not the only person in the station who had noticed the chemistry between his partner and the junior crown prosecutor. In fact, he was sure that everybody knew, except the magnificent duo themselves.

For one short second, he worried that Matt he caught sight of him, but no. His attention was willingly dragged back to the face of Alesha within a fraction of a second, and they went back to laughing.

His partner ran a hand through his hair, and she rested a hand on his arm for a lingering moment. Ronnie shifted in his seat, and then bolted upright as Natalie walked into the room.

The subjects of his gaze moved apart, though still unaware of their proximity, the movement wasn't sudden. Ronnie turned back to his computer and – pathetic as it was – he couldn't help but be a little disappointed at the premature end of the conversation.

A/N: Please review : ) This was just a little short thing that I've had in the bank for a while. Hope ya liked!
