Henry stared intently at his English paper. Name a person you know who changed your life. How would you life be different if you had never met them?
He knew immediately who this person was. Natalie. Without a doubt. She changed his life forever. He tried to think of all the reasons how she did it, but there were too many. She had helped him through every hard time in his life…even before they met.
He tried to think how he would be different if he had never met her….
The first thing that came into his mind was his parents divorce. He was sitting behind her at the time. He would always stare at her from the back, hoping she'd notice him and hoping she wouldn't. He'd only talked to her once.
She came into class crying one day. He felt awful for her. She was so upset for some odd reason. He quietly asked her if she was ok. She then realized it was the boy from behind her that had spoke up. She nodded and assured him that she was fine. She thanked him for caring and noticing her. And now when he looked back on that day, that little bit of care did wonders for her.
So when he came into class, upset, the next day, she knew she should pay him back for cheering her up the day before.
"Hi." She smiled, looking down at him. He said nothing, but acknowledged her. "Are you ok?"
He nodded and tried to explain, "My parents are getting a divorce…"
"I'm sorry…Are you dealing ok?"
He just shrugged, No… he thought… "Yeah, I'm fine….."
"If you ever want to talk about anything, you know where to find me…" She smiled and turned back to her desk, getting ready for class.
To this day, he still had her to thank for saving his life. He wanted to end it. He was going to go home after school and end it. But that little bit of hope she offered him was enough to stop him from doing that. He found another outlet instead. Instead of killing himself and hurting Natalie, he took up smoking pot to get his mind off of everything.
His life would be completely different if he never met Natalie. He wouldn't even have a life if it weren't for her. He stuck by her side because he knew he had to. He had to protect her like she protected him.
The idea for the paper finally hit him as he quickly wrote,
I've met a lot of influential people in my life. But one that changed it for the better, was none other than Natalie Goodman….
