My first attempt at Dr. Who! :D Before reading, please keep this in mind: I've meant for this short one-shot to be entirely open-ended. Which means, you decide the where, when, why, and how for this, alright? Cool. On with the story! I'm ignoring the fact that the David Tennant Doctor regenerated…he's too attractive to regenerate! XD
Lily gazed out her bedroom window once more, studying her backyard again. The clock on her wall read four past midnight. Yet again, she waited. She waited for him. It was a very clear night, a hundred stars gleaming in the sky.
Everyone else may have lost hope, but she didn't. Not yet. She had seen too much to give up now.
Suddenly, a familiar sound made Lily's heart leap. Wa-ow! Wa-ow! Wa-ow, Came the familiar mechanical sound of the T.A.R.D.I.S, as it began to materialize in her backyard.
Lily held her Teddy Bear tight to her, as she tip-toed out of her room and out the back door. The small seven-year-old shivered in the cold November air, as she was just in her nightgown. The T.A.R.D.I.S. stood still and quiet.
Cautiously, Lily approached the door and knocked. "Mr. Doctor? Mr. Doctor?" she called softly. No answer.
Trying the knob, Lily found that it was unlocked. Taking a deep breath, she slowly walked inside the T.A.R.D.I.S.
She gazed around the old time machine, smiling at all the wires and gadgets. The Doctor was nowhere in sight.
"Hello? Um…Mr. Doctor? Hello?" she called, grimacing. Still, there was no answer.
The time machine was almost too quiet, and it made Lily uneasy. Shouldn't the Doctor be around here somewhere?
It was dark inside the T.A.R.D.I.S., but Lily was able to make out something lying on the floor. Gathering up her courage, Lily walked over to investigate.
Even in the dark, the young girl was able to make out the Doctor's familiar bushy brown hair, and his dark lab coat. He was lying on the floor, unmoving.
Kneeling down beside him, Lily laid her head over his chest, listening for any sign of life from his two hearts. She heard nothing.
Her hand shaking, she carefully picked up one of his hands that was lying still beside him. It was very, very cold and stiff.
Standing up, Lily gave the body of the once-great doctor one last, sad, look before walking out of the T.A.R.D.I.S. with a heavy heart. Any hope that lingered in Lily had vanished.
Back in her bedroom, Lily heard the all-too familiar wa-ow! wa-ow! As the T.A.R.D.I.S. mysteriously vanished with its dead owner. Lily watched it go, tears in her eyes.
"Bye Mr. Doctor." She whispered. Lily fell asleep almost immediately that night.
Yet, as the years went by, the girl never stopped believing.
Ever since then, until she was very old, Lily Keller would gaze out her bedroom window every night, her old bear in hand. She never, ever stopped believing.
And sometimes, she would see a small box flying through the sky on a clear night. She would see it and smile, always keeping that special doctor in her heart.
Again, YOU decide what's going on. Why did the doctor die? Who is Lily? Where is she? How did she know the Doctor? It's all up to you! Review, and tell me honestly what you thought.
