Worker Bees

"Houston, come over here by daddy and let me get a picture of the two of you, you guys look adorable." Jackie told the little boy as she grabbed the camera.

Nick had bought Houston a play tool belt and since Nick had stuff to do around the house today he too had his on. The two of them looked like a carbon copy of each other.

Houston went and stood next to Nick and smiled broadly, but just as Jackie snapped the picture Dolly stepped in front of them.

"Dolly you photo bombed them." Jackie said with a laugh.

Jackie waited until the dog had walked past them and then once again took the picture.

Houston then followed Nick out to the garage. Jackie had been wanting Nick to assemble a storage shelf in the garage so that's what he went to do first.

"Alright bud, this is how you use a hammer." Nick told him as he pounded a nail into the shelf.

Houston watched intently as if this was the most fascinating thing he'd ever seen.

"You use your hammer on that end of the shelf." Nick told him, pointing to the other side of it where there were no nails so Houston wouldn't get hurt.

Houston reached for Nick's hammer.

"Use yours." Nick told him as he pointed to Houston's tool belt.

Houston proudly got out his hammer and got to work. Nick smiled as he watched his little boy, the child was concentrating so hard on hammering away, his little tongue was hanging out of his mouth as he did so.

"Owie." Houston said suddenly as he accidently wacked his finger with the plastic hammer.

"That's why daddy didn't let you use his." Nick told him with a chuckle.

Houston looked intently at his finger as if he expected it to fall off.

"Shake it off." Nick said as he shook his own hand to demonstrate.

Houston grinned and copied Nick as he shook off his owie and then promptly got back to work hammering on the shelf. When they were finished Nick hung the shelf.

"Alright, let's go in and tell mommy, she'll be proud of us." Nick told Houston as he led the child into the house.

"Jacks, we finished putting together your storage shelf for you." Nick told her.

"You did? Thank you. Good job guys." Jackie told them.

The look on Houston's face was priceless he looked so proud of himself.

"Would my two worker bees like a sandwich for lunch?" Jackie asked them.

"Well we have a couple more things to do first." Nick told her but Houston had a different answer.

"Yeah, me hungry." Houston told her.

Nick and Jackie laughed.

"Alright, I'll make you lunch. Is being daddy's helper fun?" Jackie asked Houston.

"Yeah." Houston said, shaking his head vigorously.

"Good." Jackie told him with a smile.

After lunch Houston helped Nick with a couple more things, Nick loved it that Houston wanted to help him, it was so nice for Nick to get to spend some one on one time with Houston.

"Did you guys finish everything?" Jackie asked them a little later in the afternoon.

"Yep we did." Nick answered her.

"That's good. Houston you look tired, did daddy work you too hard?" Jackie asked the little boy.

"Yeah." Houston said, sounding completely exhausted.

Nick laughed.

"Daddy's tired too little buddy, and my back hurts." Nick told him.

Even though both of them were wore out it had been a fun day for both of them, especially Nick.

The End!
