The five pilots sat in the unnaturally large living room for no apparent reason at all. Silence covered the room, not one word was uttered. Duo was sprawled out on the couch, a magazine folded tent style on his face. The chess table was occupied by Heero and Wufei, each making no advances toward winning the game. Trowa watched impassively from his perch by the window. Quatre, it seemed, was the only one without anything to do. Walking to the extremely large display case in the corner (well, of course they're at his house) and unearthed his beloved violin from it's hook. After a brief moment of plucking the strings lightly and twisting the tiny nobs, he began to play a light warm up.
The sound was low and soft, it grew louder and higher in pitch after every down beat. If he had an audience by now, the blond Arabian did not care. Picking up the tempo, he decided on a simple tune, something that he heard on the radio just hours before.
He began to hum along to the upbeat tune, plucking the strings when he felt it approriate. At the chorus, he launched into his favorite part of the song. Long, velvety notes that seemed to grow with intensity with each stroke of his bow. High and low, fast and deep, the music sang in his ears. The chorus was done.
Plucking again, he again began to hum the verse, slowly realizing that his audience had began to participate along with him.
"When you were a young boy, did you have a puppy that followed you around?" Wufei asked his chess opponent in time with the music.
"I know that song!" Duo exclaimed. Trowa began to snap his fingers along to the music, Wufei continued to speak the lyrics as he cornered Heero's queen.
Quatre began to get swept up along with the chorus again. The music flowed from his fingers, his heart filled with the passion that the words in his mind sang to him. He could hear Tina's voice, screaming in her low raspy voice, urging him to push further. It took him a moment to realize, that it wasn't Tina in his mind after all.
"Cause it goes on and on like a river flows!" Wufei screeched, standing abruptly. "And it gets bigger baby and heaven knows!"
"Shit!" Duo cringed in utter shock, jumping from the couch as Wufei continued to, *cough*, sing. Heero forfeited the match and walked out of the room.
"Do I love you? My, oh, my . . . river deep, mountain high. . . yeah! Yeah! Yeah! If I lost you, would I cry? Oh, how I love you baby! Baby! Baby! Baby!"
Not to be outdone, Duo began to scream and scat the last verse. They shouted and sang together, afterward they implored for Quatre to play it again. And again. And again.
"You do know why Tina Turner's voice is so raspy?" Trowa asked the two boys the next day, who were irritably sipping on cups of hot tea.
"Shut up." Wufei mouthed, as he reached for another cough drop in his pocket.
Lesson Learned: Always warm up before trying to hit extremely high and loud notes.
