fanfic inspired by music... and that rhyme. It's really short, and is
one of our first DN fanfics written. Oh, and also not beta-ed.
They were luring themselves into each others traps, trying to not tangle into web of deception. They were falling, too tangled with each other to notice it yet.
And they fell for each other. It's that simple. But... what was this feeling? Not quite love, and not quite hate, something more akin to friendship, but also something more than that.
For Ryuuzaki, Raito was the reason for all his calculations. For Raito, Ryuuzaki was the only person that could still keep him interested.
They couldn't think about parting. Even if one of them would die choking when the other would strangle him. It really doesn't mattered.
Like two halves of one whole person. Like a reflection in a mirror, a doppleganger, a dark half.
Sometimes Raito would watch sleeping Ryuuzaki thinking about how weird they look together, but also how they perfectly match each other. Two halves of one whole? Maybe. Sometimes he wished for Ryuzaki to die then shudder thinking about Kira, and how Kira-like are these thoughts. He really felt like two persons. Wishing for the end but also unsure about L. To carry his plan or to change it?
Sometimes Ryuuzaki would watch sleeping Raito and wonder how it all came to this. How it ended for them and wish for himself to be wrong. He coudn't be wrong but for a first time in his life he wished for it. Sometimes he wondered how Raito could be so perfect and so flawed at the same time. It was too much in some moments and he felt like drowning. He was drowning, along with Raito, taking him with, slowly falling to the bottom.
Was it really something that doesn't mattered? Or was it something else?
It was too late to break this fall. To wake from this dream, to see everything unaltered. To make themselves believe that it did not happen.
The web they weaved was slowing them but not allowing them to break free. Like a maze with thousands rooms where every door was a trap set by both of them. Web of lies, web of deception, where all sweet caring words were traps.
Falling. Breaking. Caring. Hating. Loving. Trying to break their fall.
Sometimes Ryuuzaki remembered the old childrens rhyme "Ring around the rosey, pockets full of posies. Ashes, ashes, we all fall down." and thought how well it matches their situation. Old childrens' rhyme from the times of black death. Walking with a dark angel shadow on their backs. Looking on the face of his own death. Usually Raito would notice his distant look and ask "What's wrong?", Ryuuzaki would then shudder and say "Nothing." It was nothing at all. He saw the same thought reflected in Raito's eyes. Yes, they both fell. Ryuuzaki was in love? hate? with his rival, his enemy, his best friend. And his best friend, rival, lover was in love/hate with him. Equal affection, equal feelings, equal fate. Their meeting was something that could not be avoided. The countdown was on; seconds flashed before their eyes. They would love together, they would die together.
Ashes, ashes, we all fall down.
There was nothing that could break their fall.
the end
