Reminiscent Translucency

An absent minded, pessimistic high-schooler, is about to crash head first into a world that she had no foresight of. Along with her close friend, and a boy of who she reveres and admires, she is about to realize that she is not who she thought she was.

It wasn't that long ago when I met her and fell in love.

Chapter 1

She wanders around, without destination, wondering what she was looking for, and who she was to meet—

"Hey, Shimizu! Watch where you're going!" I'm startled at my sudden jolt back to consciousness by the sound of Kanako's voice...just in time to run into Takae.

As I hit the taller body, he falls over on top of me, our books and papers scatter around the floor of the hallway. Takae lands on top of me, and would have crushed me if he had not caught himself and landed on his hands right over me. As I open my eyes, I am once again startled by the sudden change in light and realization dawns upon me that one of the most popular guys in school had landed on top of me, perhaps in one of the most awkward positions. There his dark eyes are staring straight into mine. The sudden eye contact causes a surge of adrenaline and I scramble out from underneath him.

"S-s-s-s-sorry!" My nervous habit includes that of stuttering, which tends to go on overdrive when such events occur. My face is bright red, and warm as if that of a fever. Takae seemed unaffected by the violent collision, and oblivious to my stammered apology, moved to pick up our books. His tall lanky figure, clothed in black, along with his dark black hair, reminded one of the moonless nights, when there was light only in the souls of Innocents.

He handed me my books and papers, each carefully stacked up, one upon the other in an organized way, his own books in his other hand, an expression of indifference on his face. "Be more careful next time." His voice was deep and rich, but his tone was also of indifference, and without emotion. He held out his hand to offer me assistance. In a daze, I accepted his hand, and was surprised by the soft tenderness of the skin. In a swift, get gentle movement, he pulled me up, and placed my books in my hand.

As he walked away, he turned suddenly to face me. "I took your story as compensation for the damaging of my books. You'd better hurry, classes have already begun."

Curse him.
