Title: Death of a Hokage or What They Meant

Author: cherry blossom rain

(A/N: I couldn't decide between titles. I've been playing around with this idea for ages, mostly when I was really tired. I seem to come up with my best ideas then. Odd, huh? I finally got to writing it. Yippee for me. Anyways, I don't own Naruto. Now on to the story!)

Chapter 1: Rock Lee/ Tenten

They weren't sure what they meant to each other. They were teammates, comrades, friends. Right?

Where was she? Lee was annoyed. It was rare that he felt anything other than kindness towards his teammates, but this was a funeral! It was disrespectful to be late.

Tenten knew she was late. Timeliness was not one of her strong points. But how in hell did they expect any of the Konoha women to be on time in one of these god-awful skirts! It was barely down to her knees, slit slightly at both sides, and a little tighter than was decent to run in. she could still hear the jeers and catcalls of her brothers as she ran. Why did they care what you wore anyways, as long as it was black! Tenten stopped short beside Lee.

Rock Lee saw a rather frazzled Tenten come up next to him.

"You're late!" was all he managed to hiss out before he was given a stern look by the woman behind them.

"I know." She whispered, "I'm so sorry." Lee nodded. He understood. Tenten felt relieved. This wouldn't have been the first time that lee had been mad at her for her lateness. The eulogy continued. Tenten's lip began to quiver with sadness, and a swift glance in lee's direction showed that his was the same.

Gai- sensei pushed quietly past them to stand at the front with the other senseis, inadvertently knocking Tenten against lee. Both blushed as their shoulders pressed together and their hands brushed. Tenten sniffled, trying to hold back tears. Suddenly, Rock Lee grabbed her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. She looked up to see one of lee's dazzling smiles.

A few minutes later, Gai looked back at his team. Tenten and lee stood close together, holding hands. Neji stood a little away, looking really very awkward. Gai smiled. He was happy that he could have helped those two finally get together. Asuma leaned over to speak to Gai.

"Hey, can you do that-" he gestured to the two genin (or are they chuunin now?) "- for me?" Gai grinned as Asuma glanced sheepishly over at Kurenai. Gai winked and looked back toward the grave.

(A/N: well, that was ok, right? Right? Review, please! I beg you!

Wow. Spazzing, much. Sooorry! Anyways, this is supposed to be a series of one-shots with a bunch of different pairings. There will probably be 4 or 5 of them. the next chapter will be sasuke/sakura. Please enjoy your soda. Woots. )
