A day after the incident with Mary…

Early in the morning…

At the sound of the alarms, Jack loudly greeted from his office,

'Morning, Ianto!'

It was the systematic thing to say, seeing as Ianto was always the first in. But when Jack went downstairs, he saw he wasn't getting coffee yet.

Toshiko smiled shyly at him as she took off her coat,

'Not quite Ianto.' She said.

Jack frowned, but realised that the reason for Ianto's earliness was that he was desperate to make up for he had done, and to escape the ghosts of his home. Right now, Toshiko would feel more of that than him.

When Jack had apologised and re-greeted Toshiko, Ianto came in. He didn't seem surprised in the slightest seeing Toshiko, but shot her an extra friendly smile before greeting them both and hurrying to the coffee machine.

Owen was next, once again unusual as he is normally drunk and the latest. Although he appeared sober, it worsened his mood. Grunting to acknowledge the others' presence, Owen was careful to avoid Tosh's eyes and made his way down to the Autopsy Bay.

Ianto handed out the coffee, leaving Gwen's on her workstation, then left to man the Tourist Center.

Gwen turned up late, and looked like she's been crying. Of course this isn't news, but this time, she tried to cover up her post-crying look. Gwen smiled at them all, falsely enthusiastic, and her eye-contact with Toshiko didn't seem quite right.

Late at night…

Jack glanced wearily at his watch, halfway through looking at a pile of alien debris to identify a species, the job landed on his knowledge after the software Toshiko ran failed to give an accurate result. He was alarmed to see that it was quarter past eleven.

'Gwen, home! I want the research on the missing persons tomorrow morning.' Jack yelled down to the workstations. 'Toshiko, you as well! Leave the computer to update on its own.'

Gwen mouthed a thanks in Jack's direction, flicked open her phone and ran out while dialling. Toshiko pulled on a coat and her bag slowly, typed a bit more on the computer, smiled when she was satisfied, then left. Toshiko didn't show it but she was on the edge of begging to stay.

'Owen! Not so fast, finish the autopsy you've started, can't have the body rotting overnight.' Owen shot up his middle finger and sauntered back down the stairs.

Jack looked around; Ianto was nowhere to be seen, so he bellowed,

'Ianto! Upstairs, my office!' And with that, Jack walked back into his office, nearly drawing out his gun when he saw someone already there.

'Don't get agitated, sir. It's just me.' It was Ianto, leaning against Jacks desk.

'How did you get there?'

Ianto smirked, 'I was already here when you called, sir. I was bringing up coffee.'

Owen's

'Okay then, let's get going, it's nearly midnight.'

'Do we have to do this?' Ianto sighed.

Jack looked him in the eyes, and replied,

'Yes, there are things that I want you to talk about, and I want to talk to you about. I also want you in places other than the Hub and your home, so we're going to talk it over dinner outside, okay?'

Ianto's silence meant that he gave in, and he helped Jack into his coat.

A/N: The last bit was from the Captain's Blog, when Jack, after Greeks Bearing Gifts, decided to take Ianto out of the Hub and ask if he needs anything.
