Souma and Kujou's story.

What if Kei was the person who met Kujou first. What if they were neighbours and childhood friends?

Kujou was four when Kei and his family moved in next door. This was a time when Kujou's dad was still alive.

Souma's family came from the countryside and had trouble adjusting to city life, especially Kei. He stayed for days in bed, covering his head with his pillow, saying that all the traffic was making him nauseous. Even if they lived in a quieter part of the city, where few cars pass through. Souma would have remained like that forever if it was not for Kujou. She brought him out of the shell.

Kei looked over the fence that separated the two homes. He looked at Kujou in the yard, playing alone.

"Do you want me to play with you?" he asked.

"No, it is okay Kei-kun,"

"Really?" he asked again, this time a little louder.

"Well, you can come play if you want," she said.

"Well, okay then," he jumped over the fence and started to play with her on the swing.

Well…those were the happy times. A year later…Kujou's father died.

This was the day of the funeral. Kujou was devastated. Her were puffy from crying and she looked pale. All Kei could do was watch. Watched her get hurt. Watched her as she cried and cried till tears no longer came out. Then he went home, holding his mother's sleeve for support. He couldn't bear to look at Kujou.

Kei was in living room, watching TV, trying to push aside the thought that he couldn't help Kujou when she needed him, despite all she had done for him. It was raining. Then he decided to just look over the fence to see if Kujou was outside.

"Mum, I'm going out for a bit," he told his mum.

"Alright, if you can please say to Kujou next door that we are very sorry for her," his mother asked him. He then took an umbrella and headed for the door.

"I will. I am off," he walked to the fence, climbed on it and peeked over. What he saw was sad. Very sad.

Kujou was still crying alone. In the garden. Immediately he rushed over but then realized there wasn't much he could do. So he sheltered her with the umbrella.

"Kei-kun?" she asked.

"Idiot, don't cry in the rain and get sick. Just let all your feelings out. I will be here for you. Just cry and cry to let out all of your feelings. By tomorrow's sunrise, you will feel better. I will be here for you so, please next time…don't cry alone," Kei said.

"Kei-kun," and with that Kujou cried and cried.

Tomorrow's sunrise surely did come and Kujou felt like a whole new person again.
