Jason, quarterback of his high school football team, ran off the field to where the cheerleaders were standing, the whole team feeling great after yet another win. The good energy was spreading all around them, to the cheerleaders and the crowd, everyone cheering and congratulating them on their win. Jason, however, didn't pay them any mind, heading to the cheerleaders to find one of them in particular. Some of the other guys on the team seemed to have the same idea, as anyone on the team to have a girlfriend on the cheer squad ran over too. Other members of the team headed towards the crowd to meet their significant others, friends or family members. Sure, it wasn't a big win for the team, but it was exciting nonetheless.
"Hey, Jason!" He heard someone call out to him.
Turning around, he saw it was two of his best friends - Hazel and Piper, both cheerleaders.
Sure, it would be nice to talk to them later, but right now he was a man on a mission - he was determined to put an end to all the flirting, teasing and tiptoeing around each other that had been going on. This was the night they would get together - or decide to just be friends. He was definitely hoping for the former.
"Hey girls. Can I catch you later? I'm kinda busy right now."
"looking for someone?" Piper asked, raising her eyebrows suggestively.
"I think I know exactly who he's looking for." Hazel says, smiling her sweet smile at Jason, giving him one of her affectionate looks. He really did love Hazel. She was just one of those people who are genuinely nice to everyone.
"Uh, yeah, I am, actually." Jason answered looking a little embarrassed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Do you know where-"
"Right over there." Piper said, cutting him off, pointing him in the right direction.
"Thanks." Jason said, and with one last shy smile at the girls and an encouraging "Go get your cheerleader!" from Hazel, that's exactly what he set off to do.
"Hey" Jason whispered, wrapping his arms around the cheerleader's slim waist.
This was something they did - a sort of game they played. They would be all touchy-feely with each other all the time - hugging a lot, cuddling, having arms around each other at all times, holding hands sometimes - but no actual, real, regarded relationship between them. And sure, they had a certain level of unmentioned intimacy between them, but they never did anything like kiss, let alone anything sexuall. Yeah, what they had was nice, but being a teenage boy, Jason wanted more. But it wasn't just the physical aspect of things that he craved, he realized. It was, as embarrassing as some guys might find to admit it, also the squishy-mushy, lovey-dovey, touchy-feely, emotional side of a relationship that he wanted.
And dammit, he was going to get it.
"Hey yourself, Superman. That was one amazing game you played out there." Percy answered after turning around in Jason's embrace, wrapping his own arms around the taller boy's neck.
"Yeah, well, it was one thought in particular that motivated me to do my best." Jason said, a smile that seemed to be at war with itself whether to be sheepish or cheeky spreading on his lips, stretching the scar he got when he was little.
His gaze moving down to Jason's lips, Percy sent him a cheeky smile of his own.
"Yeah? And what was this encouraging thought of yours?" He asked, looking back up to meet Jason's blue eyes with his green ones, making eye contact.
Before Jason had a chance to lose his nerve, he murmured an unfocused "this", and finally, after what felt like centuries of flirting, teasing and tiptoeing (when in reality it was more like a few months), he connected his lips to Percy's in a kiss that he had been craving for so long.
