"Listen. I'm not saying we're lost. I'm just saying that I have no idea where we are."
"Mal, that is literally the definition of lost." Molly said, exasperated. They had been wandering through the woods for what felt like hours. "If we hadn't lost the map back by the beach, we would know exactly how to get back to camp."
Mal crossed her arms defiantly. "Well, I'm not the one who insisted on exploring the cove in the first place. But we just had to go down there, and we just had to head into the cave, and now the map's lost somewhere in that nasty hole."
Molly stopped in her tracks, turning around to face Mal. "Oh, nooo, you can not blame this on me. All I tried to do was make a fun date for you and me while the rest of the cabin was busy with Jen's experiment. I thought a day at the beach would be fun. How was I supposed to know that you'd lose the map in a cave?"
"Don't blame me! You're the one who suggested going into the cave in the first place!"
"You didn't have a problem with following me!"
"You never asked! You just yelled 'Come on' and ran off into a scary-looking hole in the ground! It seems like we can't go more than a day without getting into some weird shenanigans!"
"Are you trying to say that's somehow my fault?"
"Well, your poking around some weird cave sure isn't helping!"
"I just wanted to have an adventure with you, Mal!"
"And I just wanted to avoid one for once!"
The pair fell silent and turned away from one another. Mal sat down at the roots of a nearby tree, burying her face in her hands. Molly paced back and forth, running her hands through her hair anxiously. Neither said anything for a long time.
After a long pause between the two, Mal rose from her position on the ground and stepped cautiously to Molly. The blonde girl looked at her, confused. "Mal? What're you…" She began, only to be interrupted by Mal wrapping her arms around Molly, clutching her close and burying her face in Molly's shoulder. Molly hugged her back, her chin resting softly on the top of Mal's head.
When they finally broke the embrace, they held one another at arm's length.
"Listen…" They said at the same time, and couldn't help but laugh.
"You first." Molly said, smiling.
"Okay." Mal cleared her throat. "I'm sorry for getting mad at you for leading us into an adventure. I know you were just trying to make our date more exciting."
"I'm sorry for dragging you into a freaky cave without considering what you wanted to do. I know sometimes you just want a simple day with no excitement."
"Forgiven?"
"Forgiven."
They hugged again briefly, Molly planting a small kiss on top of Mal's head. "We'd better get moving. Sun's gonna go down soon." Mal said, blushing. "I'm pretty sure I saw a path that way."
"How sure is pretty sure, Mal?" Molly asked doubtfully.
Mal just shrugged, grabbed Molly's hand, and ran off with her through the underbrush.
