Title: Apology
Rating: K+ (because I mention stripping)
Pairing: None
This takes place in the beginning of the third movie, sometime while they're on their way to rescue Jack. I got this idea after seeing a picture from the third movie with Barbossa and Elizabeth talking. I wondered what his take on Elizabeth's transformation from governors daughter to Pirate would be, know, from a third party who wasn't emotionally involved like Will and Jack. Let me know what you think, I live for reviews :)
Disclaimer: despite my best efforts, I still don't own POTC, or Canada.
"You must be a pirate for the pirate's code to apply, and yer not…"
Captain Barbossa, POTC 1
She sure has changed, Hector Barbossa thought as he stared at the only girl on the ship. Oh, yes, she'd always been this headstrong and crafty, that was for sure. How many normal women, when confronted with the captain of the most feared ship in the Caribbean, would look him straight in the eye and tell him to go away? And then black mail him into getting her way? He should have known then that there was more to this girl then fine clothes and big words, but it wasn't until he had a knife sticking out of his heart that there might be more to Elizabeth Swann then met the eye.
And the eye does not go wanting…
He chuckled to himself at the memory of her being forced to strip to make sure she wasn't hiding any more weapons. Compared to how humiliated she'd been standing in nothing but her night dress on the end of a wooden plank, she sure didn't seem to worse for wear after the Singapore incident. And now look at her! Not only not wearing a dress, but dressed like a Singaporean Pirate to boot. It did suit her, though. Or maybe it was simply the new confidence that radiated from her. She was no longer the girl who'd lived all her life in a safe, pampered environment. She'd gone out and lived, made mistakes, and had to pay the price for those mistakes.
Mistakes like murder. Well, she's always seemed to have a propensity for killing,he thought to himself, absentmindedly rubbing the scar over his heart, her methods certainly have improved. Looking at her, one would never guess that she'd fed a friend to a large fishy beast, all for her own selfish gain. And there was rumor about that she'd even kissed Jack Sparrow before leaving him to die. He shook his head in awed disbelief.
The object of his observation, noticing his staring, wandered over to him.
"Is something wrong, Captain Barbossa?" she asked curiously.
"Not at all. I was just thinking I owe you an apology," he said.
"An apology? For what?" she asked.
"Do you remember the first conversation we had aboard the Pearl? About the pirate code?"
"That it's really just a set of guidelines? Yes, why?" this conversation was confusing her.
"I also said that you had to be a pirate for the pirate's code to apply, and that you weren't. well, I'd like to take that back. You have, without a doubt, the purest Pirates heart I've ever seen. Ye were born for this life, missy, and I doubt you'll ever escape it." His speech finished, he left Elizabeth and went over to the rail, leaving her to her thoughts.
Elizabeth sighed. While she wasn't quite sure about being purely pirate, she had to admit that she was better suited for a life at sea then a life confined to corsets. As for never escaping it, she hoped she'd never have a reason to want to.
