Hi guys! Well its time for a new story a story that tells about what happened to Conga on her quest for vengeance against the hawk who killed her mother. How did she survive it and did she succeed? Well you will have to read this story to find out, so sit back and relax as I tell you the tale. It will not be a narrative; I don't think I will ever do those again.
Also I would suggest you read Memoirs of a Blue Bird first before you read this just in case you are confused about what is going on or have not read that one.
As always I don't own the lion king or Zazu but I do own Conga, Mahiri, and Baakir. Have a nice day.
The grass rustled in the savanna as the wind blew softly in the air. The sky was as blue as the clearest lake, and the air was not too hot but comfortable enough for any animal to enjoy the day with their herd or pride.
A small zebra family was doing just that as they followed their month old foal through the grass trying to catch up with the rambunctious youngster. It had rained last night which was one of the reasons why the air was not as hot as it usually was, causing the foal to be more playful and go for a swim around his favorite waterhole.
He stopped for a moment to inspect a small termite mound that had yet to grow as tall as the other mounds seen around the area, and of course to give his small family some catching up to do. He watched them happily as he motioned for them to come over and see the new creation. Of course they had seen a new mound many times before, but that did not stop them from letting the young foal enjoy his moment of discovering one for the first time.
Suddenly a shadow flew over them and the young foal looked up alarmed, but he quickly discovered that it was nothing to worry about. Only a teal colored bird flying overhead toward some acacia trees.
The foal whinnied in excitement and ran to follow it, his family hot on his tail once again. The young bird heard the foal whinny and looked down at the happy foal who was now under her.
Conga sighed; she was not in the mood to play and quickly flew faster toward the acacia trees hoping the foal would not follow. But the foal did not care and picked up speed as he continued to follow her.
Conga noticed this and tried to fly faster but she was still a fledgling and she was still not a good flyer. Soon the foal was right underneath her again and laughing happily at his own antics.
Conga only rolled her eyes and soon reached the acacia trees where she hid from view hoping that the foal would go away this time. The foal still came over to investigate and looked up in the trees for a moment, hoping she would come down and play but she never did. The foal looked at the floor sadly wishing she could play with him. But his sadness quickly changed when he heard his mother whinny for him, causing him to run to her and head back to the water hole.
Conga watched from the branches and sighed. She really did not want that to happen, she was on a mission and there was no time for silly games like that. Once Conga regained her breath, she looked out into the flat savanna for any signs of the murderous hawk who killed her mother and sister. The murderous hawk who destroyed her world and Zazu's, her father. All was silent, save for the rustling of the leaves caused by the wind.
Conga sighed, she did not really want to do this but she knew she had to. The hawk killed in cold blood and she believed that he did not deserve to live. It had been two weeks since her mother's death and two days since she left her father for her quest. She was going to be the new advisor to the pride lands once her father retired, but that did not matter at the moment. Before her mother's death she could not wait to get the position, now she felt that pursuing the hawk was more important.
Conga stared out into the savanna watching the zebra and the wildebeests graze while the horrible memory that happened two weeks ago came back to her.
"Hey look a hawk," said Tiki, her sister, who pointed to a tree nearby.
"Wow look at the size of him, he must be bigger than Simba," said Dinari her brother
"Nobody can be bigger than Simba," said Tiki.
"But he looks just as dangerous," said Conga.
"Oh that's because you're afraid, I bet he would love to talk to us," said Tiki.
"I am not afraid, I am just careful when strangers are around and this stranger is no different, I actually don't trust him one bit," said Conga.
"I bet he's harmless and just to prove it I'm gonna go over there and talk to him, besides no one can resist a pretty face," said Tiki who then batted her eyelashes.
Conga rolled her eyes and stood beside Dinari as they watched Tiki fly toward the hawk. Everything seemed fine at first, the hawk stayed where it was perched watching as Tiki flew near him and showing off her new flying skills.
Then without warning the hawk attacked. It happened in the blink of an eye and Tiki was in the hawks grasp. Conga and Dinari watched in horror as the hawk began tearing Tiki apart while Tiki screamed for help but the two chicks knew that they were helpless, they were too small to fight back.
Suddenly out of nowhere their mother came flying in startling the hawk and causing him to drop Tiki who plummeted to the ground, landing heavily on her back.
Conga gasped at what she saw and then turned to her mother who was now fighting the hawk, but the hawk seemed to have the advantage. Where was Zazu? He needed to help her.
"Dinari, go find Dad, I don't think Mom can handle the hawk on her own," said Conga.
"Okay I'll be back as fast as I can," said Dinari.
Conga watched her brother fly off to find her father and turned back to watch as her mother continued to fight back.
"I don't want to fight you, I just want you to leave my children alone," cried Binti.
The hawk ignored her and gave an agonizing screech that caught Binti off guard. The hawk had played a trick on her and it worked and like lightening, he brought his talons down on Binti, causing feathers to fly in every direction. Conga winced as she heard her mother cry out while the hawk only laughed.
"Please I was only trying to protect my child," cried Binti.
Conga watched as the hawk struck again, knocking Binti back, but she remained firm and stayed in the air trying to fight back.
Another strike came a few seconds later on Binti's side yet this time Binti was able to swipe at him back, hitting him in the wing. The hawk grunted and then growled as he attacked again this time digging his claws deep into Binti's back. Binti screamed as more blood and feathers flew everywhere.
Conga felt some weight on the branch and turned to find her dad standing beside her, looking very nervous.
"Dad, Mom is loosing terribly, you need to help her," said Conga.
"Where's Tiki?" asked Zazu.
"Down there, she has not moved since Mom came to save her," said Conga.
"Okay go check on her while I help your mother," said Zazu.
Conga nodded and flew down toward Tiki and was quickly met by Dinari who came to help her. The instant they saw her, they knew the outlook was grim. Blood was everywhere and Tiki showed no sign of movement.
"Tiki are you okay?" asked Conga as she shook her sister trying to get her to respond. But Tiki never answered her, she was dead.
Conga barely had any time to mourn when she heard her brother yell out to Binti who was now falling to the ground with heavy force.
"Mom!" Yelled Conga and was about to fly and save her when Dinari stopped her.
"Don't you'll be killed trying to catch her," said Dinari.
Conga knew he was right and had no choice but watched as her mother landed with the sound of breaking bones into the hard earth.
Conga and Dinari gasped and ran toward her crying.
"Mom! Are you alright?" asked Conga.
For a moment, Binti did not move causing Conga to cry while Dinari stood there in shock seeing his mother covered in her own blood.
"Zazu….where is he?" Binti said before she began to cough heavily sending blood into the green grass.
"I don't know mom, I think he's trying to get the hawk away from us," said Conga.
"I need to help him then," said Binti.
She tried to stand but the pain was so great that she collapsed and begain to cry from the pain.
"Mom you're bleeding badly, try not to move too much," said Conga.
"I think I broke a wing," said Binti as she tried to move the wing she landed on.
"Did you break anything else mom?" asked Conga.
"I think so not sure what," said Binti who then coughed again.
"Oh I hope dad comes back," said Dinari.
"Me too Dinari," said Conga who now looked very scared, they knew Binti would not survive if Zazu did not return to help her.
Binti gave another agonizing cough that brought out another puddle of blood, the chicks did not know it but the hawk had pierced a lung and Binti was slowly choking to death, she would be dead before sunset.
For at least an hour Conga and Dinari stood by their mother's side, unsure of what to do or how to help her. Both cried quietly while they watched her suffer. Sometimes she looked so bad that both burst into tears as they watched their mother cough up more and more blood while her wounds never stopped bleeding. Both had never witnessed a death like this.
Zazu their father finally arrived, he had lured the hawk away and it was still out there somewhere, hopefully it was not coming back.
What happened next broke all three of their hearts. Binti said goodbye to them. But it did not affect any one more than Conga who was actually holding her mothers wing as she took her last breath. The last breath that told her to be strong and to become a great advisor like her father, the last breath that told her she loved her.
Conga brushed away those horrible memories as she felt a tear fall down her face. She remembered those two weeks well, full of pain and sadness. At first she was depressed, crying for hours on end wanting her mother back but only finding her father there trying to comfort her.
During that time, Dinari left because he could not handle living in the place his mother died any longer. Conga did not blame him though; it was probably the only way for him to be happy.
Once her depression went away, her grief turned to anger as she thought about the hawk who killed her mother. The grey hawk with white on his shoulders and a black mask around his blood red eyes. Those blood red eyes that laughed at her mothers dying face before he threw her to the ground.
The hawk needed to be destroyed and she did not care if she was to be killed doing it, that hawk did not deserve to live. He killed without any remorse and did not stop when her mother told him too.
She did not care when her father told her not to leave him because he was alone now, that idiot lived most of his life on his own any way, she knew he could handle it. She also knew that the morning report was just as important as family. As far as she was concerned, the morning report could be his family until she felt like returning.
"The morning report is important because the king must know what is happening in the pride lands. Without it would be like you missing a head," she remembered her father telling her.
"What a stupid old fart," Conga thought to herself. Not knowing the news was like loosing a head, yeah right. Not knowing the news was like loosing a feather, not that important.
Conga's angry thoughts quickly changed to determination as she scanned the savanna one more time before taking flight, still no sign of the hawk but she knew that that would change soon.
