" But I could justify doing both if you came back. But we both know that's not going to happen." He said, turning on the charming smile that he knew from experience worked so well on her.
He felt a stab of guilt. Poor naive Rachel who was smarter than he could ever be. Except when it came to matters of the heart.
" You know what we should do?" he said.
" Elope?" Rachel said hopefully.
He had no idea what that meant but the look she was giving him was clear. This would be easier than he had thought.
For Quinn. he reminded himself as the guilt grew.
Quinn and the baby.
" We should go bowling."
There he would talk to her and convince her to come back to Glee. They needed her to win.
He needed her to win.
Finn was so focused on his plan that he didn't realise how selfish he sounded.
He was having a good time.
Finn had bought Rachel pizza, they had been bowling and he was having the best time he'd had in a while what with school and football and Quinn's baby drama.
He was having such a good time that he almost forgot the reason for this whole thing.
AlmostFinn had rambled on about pizza until Rachel had brought up Glee and he remembered what he was supposed to do.
He spoke the truth when he said that they, or at least he, anyway was her friend.
But he couldn't get caught up in the moment.
Quinn was having his kid.
Rachel was hot and all, but whatever happened now, he would have to be with Quinn. For the baby.
Besides, he loved Quinn.
Not Rachel. And no, this was not a date.
Rachel said she didn't feel appreciated and before he knew it he with his big mouth had blurted out.
" I appreciate you."
Oh crap.
He jumped up, before she could turn his careless words into something they weren't.
" It's your last ball."
It was a strike.
She had jumped up and hugged him and before he knew what was happening they were kissing.
And it feels like love, but it don't mean a lot…
He broke away.
Quinn. he thought firmly.
I need Rachel to come back for Quinn and the baby.
" Come back to Glee."
" What about Quinn?"
Oh no. Finn had never been a good liar so he stuck to as close to the truth as he could get.
" I don't know what's gonna happen in the future. I just wanna spend more time with you now." That was true.
Although she was having his baby, he had been pulling away from nagging, hormonal Quinn and inexplicably drawn to nutty, crazy, smokin' hot Rachel. It didn't help that even he could see that she was completely in love with him.
" I'll have to quit the play." She said.
" I'll do it!" oh God, here was her one chance and she was blowing by worrying about the play.
Who cared about the play now that she had Finn?
She hugged him so tightly that she vowed that she would never let him go. Finn, caught up in the moment, gave her a beaming smile that faded as soon as he remembered the reason why he had just done all this.
He wasn't Rachel's boyfriend and no matter how sweet and funny and utterly gorgrous she was, he could never have her.
The guilt clawed at him worse than ever.
At least he had a chance of getting the scholarship now.
But at what cost?
Quinn was pregnant.Oh my God.
She was horrified as he explained.
He used her?
He used her!
For a damn scholarship!
Well she'd show the first guy that had ever won and broken her heart in the same day who was boss.
If he thought she was coming back to Glee….
No. She was better than he was.
Much better.
As she walked away Finn didn't quite understand why he was sad. Was it because he lost his scholarship?
Or was it because he lost a chance at Rachel?
He meant it when he said that their kiss meant something.
" I'm gonna make it up to you someday. I swear."
And he wasn't talking about protecting Quinn's pregnancy.
