Date Night

Sadie looked like an angel, curled up in a peaceful slumber on her bunk. Unaware of the gentle eyes that were admiring her every breath and movement. If only she was awake to meet those eyes, then maybe she would have returned the same loving gaze to its owner. If only she could hear the sound of that penguin's heartbeat, pounding with passion then maybe she would have the courage to tell her dad the truth… Quin sighed longingly. He had been planning this night for weeks and it was now time to put his plan in to action. However, he needed Sadie to agree to go with him. Silently he prayed that she would not reject him.

"Sadie" Quin whispered softly as he placed a flipper on her back. Murmuring lightly Sadie smiled blissfully thinking she was in a wonderful dream. Grunting Quin looked warily at Skipper. If he woke up it was game over and the worst part was Quin would not be able to hit the re-set button. "Sadie come on I have a surprise for you". Quin urgently shook Sadie not hard enough to make her jump, but firm enough to ensure she woke up. Opening one eye Sadie mumbled

"What's up?" and Quin smiled slyly

"Currently you are" Sadie made a noise and rolled her eyes at the cheesy joke and she quickly swung out of her bunk. Landing on Quin's back, who was gesturing to her to do so. Sadie trusted him completely so she knew it must be important. Outside the HQ was a candlestick holder with flames floating with the rhythm of the quiet evening wind. Stars with their millions of constellations bore witness to this romantic scene and heightening the mood by warding of the dark. A bright full moon beamed down and bathed the two young penguins in light making their white feathers appear silvery. Quin stood proudly behind a woven picnic basket.

"Quin what's all of this?" Sadie breathed in awe, totally taken aback and mesmerised by the cliché kind of objects that reminded her fondly of her British roots.

"Sadie would you go on a…" Quin began to stammer and felt a furious blush creep over him.

"Quin are you blushing!" Losing his cool Quin smiled shyly and nodded. Sadie's teasing eyes softened and she whispered something in to Quin's earhole. Sitting down they both began to enjoy a banquet of fish, fish covered in mayonnaise and salty chips.

"Where did you get the chips from?" Sadie questioned as she licked her beak with satisfaction.

"That's for me to know and for you to never find out" Quin winked and laughed as Sadie playfully lunged at him. "Come on! A guy needs to maintain some mystery to keep the girls interested" Quin smiled as he softly nuzzled Sadie's head with his own. Relenting Sadie laid back allowing her full stomach to digest its food as she smiled happily to herself. Quin tentatively laid down beside Sadie, leaving a small gap between them.

"Tonight has been perfect. Thank you so much Quin" Sadie turned over to glance at Quin and she placed her flipper on his appreciatively.

"It's not over yet! The night is still young and I have a lot more tricks up my sleeve" Quin explained mischievously and Sadie gasped in surprise. No one had ever given her a surprise of this magnitude before and she felt giddy with excitement about what the rest of the night would entail.
