a/n: Gail is so misunderstood and I love the way she always keeps her head high and pushes through whatever she's going. enjoy!

Gail frowns as she walks out of the station to meet the icy cold rain. This is great, she thinks. Her car is parked a little far from the station today and it just ends up being the day it's supposed to rain. She winces as the rain soaks her from head to toe and her car is just a few feet away.

She stops walking when she hears a voice call out to her.

Instead of turning around, Gail continues walking, hoping she'll get in her car and the person will just leave her alone. Just as she reaches for the car door, a strong hand grabs her elbow and she's crashing into a hard chest.

"What now?" Gail hopes he doesn't hear the hurt in her voice.

"I'm sorry," Chris looks at the ground and just for a fraction of a second, Gail feels truly sorry for him.

"You know what? I've heard too many sorries in my life and I'm not about to listen to you say how sorry you are. So let me go and I'll be on my way," His grasp on her elbow doesn't seem to weakening any time soon.

Chris sighs and lets her arm go, defeat consuming him and at the same time he has a little determination left for him to fight for her. He realizes after all this time he's loved Gail Peck. He loves the way she throws snarky comments when she's annoyed and how she can sometimes be kind and caring.

He doesn't know how much he's hurt her but there's one thing Gail's sure about; she's learning to stop loving him. Chris was selfish and didn't really love her.

"I'm sorry for not realizing what I had. I'm sorry for shutting you out when I was down. I'm sorry for making you feel like crap when all you wanted was just for me to be happy, Gail. You don't get what you do to me," He shakes his head and once again looks at the ground.

She's not inside the car yet but her back is to him. She feels like laughing this was way too real to be happening. Gail feels her resolve crack even through the tough front she's putting on. She curses herself for letting this idiot get to her and asks herself how she could be so weak, especially to a deer in the headlights like Chris Diaz.

A piece of her tells her to forgive him and the other tells her to move on and continue her fucked up life.

So she turns around, a sickeningly sweet smile on her pale face as she walks towards him. She loves the expression on his face – he's between confused and scared. She stops in front of him and looks in those brown eyes of his. For once she wasn't enthralled by them and memories of Chris and her flash in her mind.

She raises her hand and slaps his cheek, enjoying the loud noise it emits against the rain.

He deserves it she tells herself and she opens her car door, starts the engine, almost hits Chris and drives away. Gail smiles because she knows she did the right thing. She wasn't going to be the damsel in distress like some others decided to play; she was stronger than that and would always have her pride intact.

Assholes were better left in the dirt.
