(A/N: A new fic where we learn that Ariel is also smart. Here we go!)
It was a hot summer afternoon in the city of Petropolis. Since the agents had the day off, they tried to spend the day keeping cool. Now let's go see how Keswick and Claire are holding up on a day like today.
At Keswick and Claire's house, they're not having an easy time keeping cool.
"I know the perfect way to cool off. Who's up for a swim?" Claire asked.
"We are!" said the twins, who are now 9-year-olds.
"So am I!" said Keswick.
"But what about Ariel?" asked Nate, who recently turned 5.
Ariel was the youngest of the family at 3 years old, and she too was smart for her age. She just didn't know how to swim yet, but she had a swimsuit.
"He's right! Ariel doesn't know how to swim yet!" Lisa said.
"Can she learn today?" Tyler asked.
"Seeing how we're going for a swim, now's the p-p-perfect time." said Keswick.
So Keswick, Claire, Lisa, Tyler, and Nate changed into their swimsuits. Then Claire got Ariel ready, and they went out to the pool.
"Yahoo!" the twins and Nate said as they jumped into the pool. Ariel was standing a few feet away from the pool with her parents, watching her siblings as they swam.
"Now, how are we going to teach Ariel how to swim?" Claire wondered aloud.
"Beats me." Keswick replied.
While the grown-ups were talking, Ariel slowly made her way towards the pool (by the shallow end, of course), and stepped in. Lisa, Tyler, and Nate were having too much fun to notice their sister.
"Let's just hope we can teach her." Claire said.
"Ariel's a smart girl. I know she can l-l-learn." Keswick said.
"Okay, Ariel, it's time you learned how to-" Claire said, but she stopped short when she realized that Ariel wasn't standing there.
"What? Where is she?" Claire asked.
"She can't be too f-f-far." Keswick said.
While Keswick and Claire looked, Ariel was still standing in the water. She went a little deeper, and then she got ready to swim. You see, Ariel had paid close attention when she watched her parents and siblings swim, and she was more than willing to try swimming on her own.
For a small child who hadn't had swimming lessons, Ariel turned out to be pretty good at swimming. Before long, Ariel swam past her siblings, who were swimming around the not-so-deep end.
"Hi." Ariel said as she passed by.
"Hey, Ariel." said Nate, seeing her.
"Nate, did you just say 'Ariel'?" Tyler asked.
"Yes. Uh-oh..." said Nate.
"What in the-?" Lisa said, looking for Ariel. She saw Ariel swimming towards the deep end with the greatest of ease.
"Mom, Dad! We found Ariel!" Nate called out.
"Where is she?!" Keswick and Claire asked.
"In the water, swimming towards the deep end." Lisa replied.
"Did you say that she's swimming?!" Claire asked.
"See for yourselves." Tyler said.
The kids were right. Ariel was swimming towards the deep end, and she was swimming pretty well.
"How is she swimming?! Nobody t-t-taught her how to!" Keswick exclaimed.
"I don't know. But that's what I want to find out." Claire said.
Once she reached the end, Ariel turned and swam back to the shallow end. Upon returning to the shallow end, Claire lifted Ariel out of the water and said, "How did you learn to swim?"
Ariel was afraid that her mother was unhappy with her, but she managed to say, "By w-w-watching you, Daddy, Lisa, Tyler, and Nate. I p-p-paid close attention."
"For you to swim that well, you must've p-p-paid very close attention." Keswick said.
"You're not m-m-mad, are you?" Ariel whimpered.
"No, we're just surprised, and very proud of you." Keswick said. Ariel relaxed and smiled.
"Well, this was unexpected, but amazing." Claire said as she and Keswick hugged their youngest child close to them.
The End
Now we know that Ariel is also a very smart kid.
