Chapter One: Southern Wind Whispers

Note: The first one or two chapters will seem as if they relay information. The others are supposed to make you feel like you are in them.

Disclaimer: I do not own any character from YuYu Hakusho. I do own Azrael "Rae" Hinashi.

A girl by the name of Azrael Hinashi is walking away from her father's grave and to a broken home. The small apartment that she shares with... shall we say, captor. She walks by the sign that says 'Gentai Cemetary' and looks away.

As she drifted back to the days of youth, if one could call it as such. It all starts from the first memories of the great Ryuuki Hinashi, the man she calls father. It was not a fond memory that ensued; it was the first of many that bruised her heart like a requiem.

Flashback

"Rae, do you see all of this war? Never enter a situation you cannot get out of. Promise me you will not take the throne of Gentai until you are twenty-one." Ryuuki asked his six year old daughter as they were headed into the war. (Later known as The Battle of Bloody Souls)

"Hai, Outo-san... I promise." Azrael said almost in a whisper as her bright aqua eyes grew dim with despair.

Azrael and her father reach the frontlines, the shots and arrows whizzing around were all a blur. At least until she heard the sickening the thud of her father falling to the ground. It had been an ambush from the right flank, only someone on the inside would have known. Soldiers hastening speed to reload cannons, falling prey to the Reaper's silent blade of death.

"Outo!" Azrael was at her father's side in an instant kneeling over him as she saw the enemies' arrows in her father's chest.

" Rae...Get back.. to Karasu..." He managed to choke out before dying with a last breath.

"Outo!" Tears stung her eyes as she obeyed her father's last words and ran back to the base, only looking back once.

Everything in her mind was a distorted picture except for her father. Nothing made any sense; she just kept running as fast as her limbs would take her.

-About three days after the death of Ryuuki-

"Well, Rae, It looks like I'm in power now." Karasu said pulling her up onto his lap.

Azrael just stayed quiet.

"From now on, you are to do everything as I tell you. Do you understand?" Karasu whispered in her ear with a hint of an evil hiss.

"Hai..." She said, mentally grumbling at herself and thinking ' Father… Why did you have to go? Why did you leave me here alone? Why did you leave me with this traitor? And to think, you called him your comrade...'

End Flashback

Azrael arrives at the apartment and climbs the two and a half flights of stairs to the door. Her aqua orbs not leaving the hideous green carpeting of the hallway and the stairs.

She stops at the top of the stairs, breathing a heavy sigh of pent-up anguish of someone beyond her current years. A moment later she turns the knob to open the door to the apartment and steps inside as quietly as she can and closes the door. She takes off her black Converse shoes and puts them on a red mat facing to the outside.

"Karasu-sama? I'm home!" she called out.

He appeared, leaning on the oak wood banister just outside of his bedroom to shout "What do you WANT woman?! You know I am busy!"

"But Karasu-sama... You wanted to know I was home so you wouldn't go looking for me." she just stared at the oak laminate floor, not daring to look him in the eye as fear struck her core instantly from his yelling.

"Well, I know you're home. Anything else?" Karasu sneered.

"I also wanted to know if you were hungry so I could make your dinner..." Azrael trailed off , her orbs still locked to the floor.

Karasu got a lustful look in his purple eyes as he descends a few steps to the foier. " No, I'm not particularly hungry." He drew a few steps closer until he was in front of her, bringing his hand to her auburn hair and gently vying with it. "We'll just skip dinner tonight and go straight upstairs."

" T-that's ok, Karasu-sama. I have studying to do..." She stammers and slowly moves away, attempting no sudden movements to provoke Karasu.

"No. You will come with me! You are not to disobey me!" he snatched her arm with his clawed hand and started to drag her upstairs to his bed chambers.

"You're just a pervert!" she screams out in desperation, not thinking before speaking, clawing at his arm.

He hisses in her face like a demon and throws her against his door with ease; the impact makes a loud thud. She slides down the door from where she was thrown and is knocked out, instantly unconscious.

Karasu smiles, pleased with himself. He walks over to the door and opens it, the creak of the hinges are enough to make one cringe. Kicking Azrael enough inside the door that it will close, he slams the door to wake her up.
