Author's Note: Hi, FierceDeity here with an experimental style of fanfiction. This fic is very short, about three quarters of a page, but I hope you enjoy it all the same. Please bear in mind that this style is a bit quirky. Only one character is named throughout the fic, the rest are left anonymous intentionally. This story also has no proper ending. You will have to fill in the end for yourself. If you read it all the way through, please to post a comment about what you think happens next. I would love to hear from you!
Unspoken Ending: The Dream Crusher
It all came down to this. The final battle, the ultimate clash, the culmination of all their efforts was before them. The only obstacle that was left was the Champion. Beyond that chamber waited the end of the road, every Trainer's dream was to be a Pokemon master and enter the Hall of Fame. Now, here they stood, prepped and ready for combat. Finally, they climbed the last of the stairs and entered the Champion's Room.
The tension in the air was almost suffocating. Across the platform, on the far side of the room, the Champion turned to face his challenger. He was looking at the ground, and upon raising his gaze to make eye contact, he inquired "What do you hope to gain through victory?"
The challenger was unsure of how to respond, so he replied hesitantly that he was hoping to gain fame and glory.
"A sad excuse for resolve. With such base aspirations you will never defeat me."
"Yeah, well, I beat all the other trainers who tried to stop me from rising to the top! Even the elite four had nothing on my team!"
"Confidence is all well and good, but without a sound reason for attempting and a true goal in mind, you won't be going anywhere."
"Tough talk! Let's see you back it up! It looks like you only have one Pokemon!" The challenger was angry that the Champion would make light of his efforts. What did he mean 'sound reason'? Wasn't just being Champion the 'true goal'? How could this guy be champion with a one Pokemon team? Having decided that there had been enough talk, the challenger made the opening decision. "I choose you!"
The champion cocked his head to one side and reached to his belt for the pokeball. "Go, Ansperavis, crush his hopes!"
~Ansperavis? I've never heard of that Pokemon before.~ The challenger was confused and concerned. Suddenly the chamber grew darker as pure shadow flowed from the Champion's pokeball, the champion was shrouded in the black mist such that only his eyes were visible, and they were glowing a dull blood red. A presence could be felt, so powerful that it preceded the beast's actual appearance. The challenger shuddered, took a step back, and almost fell to his knees as his legs lost all strength. He was in over his head, big time.
A black vortex formed before his eyes as the energy swirled from the pokeball fiercer and faster. Then it appeared, rising out of the shadows draped in darkness and exuding power. The challenger pulled out his pokedex and scanned the monster before him. The data was processed and then returned:
"Ansperavis, the legendary Dream Crusher Pokemon, this fell beast is so powerful, that it has never known defeat. All those who face it are drained of the will to fight. Recommendation: surrender."
The challenger looked to his friend, shaken with fear and trembling in the shadows. It was his own arrogance that had led them to this room, despite the rumors and speculation, and now his friend would pay for the mistake. They had been warned that this region's champion was undefeated, now he knew why.
He was unable to move or speak, just stand there as the legend loomed closer and closer. He didn't want to give in or give up, they had come to far for that! But what could he do? As Ansperavis and defeat approached, he felt resigned to the end...
