I yawned, sitting against the weeping willow tree waiting for him to arrive. It was dark, the stars twinkling brightly and I watched them, smiling as a warm, gentle breeze caused the leaves of the tree to rustle lightly. He told me to meet him here, that he had a surprise. In excitement, I got ready and left my house early, causing me to arrive early. I didn't mind though, it was nice here.
I heard the foot steps behind me, leaves and twigs crunching under each step and I turned as he got here, taking his seat.
"Do you like it?" he asked, looking out over the city. We were on a hill that went above the city. It was really nice.
"Yeah, it's great." I answered, looking out as well. I glanced at him and saw him smiling. He was smiling a true smile, not a smirk or one that was fake so he'd be left alone, he was really smiling, and that made me smile even more.
"I'm glad… I wasn't exactly sure you would like it." He said. "I love it." I responded, looking at him. He looked at me as well and reached a hand over, placing it on mine. I felt my face warm up, and I hoped he wouldn't see.
"I know you're not gay and all, but I can't keep this a secrete anymore." He said. I stayed silent, staring at the shades that hid his eyes. "I… I love you… more than just a bro or a friend. I truly love you John. And… to prove it to you, I'm going to show you something." He said. He paused to breathe, his fingers twitching slightly, then with another deep breath, he pulled his hand from mine and it suddenly felt cold. He reached up, and pulled his shades off, his eyes remaining closed. When he opened them, I gasped. His eyes were a fiery red and gorgeous. He stared at me and I stared at his eyes.

"Dave…" I started but didn't know what to say. I reached up placing my hand on his cheek and he leaned into it, closing his eyes. He seemed relaxed, at peace almost. It's my turn.

"…Dave… I… I love you too." I started, with a gentle smile. He opened his eyes and looked at me, "What about being straight?" he asked. I looked away, "it was a lie…. Because I felt if I told you… you would never speak to me again…" I told him, getting quieter towards the end.
We were silent for a bit and then I leaned over and kissed him softly on the lips. He stiffened up slightly, then kissed back and when we parted, he was smiling again.

"So is this going to be our first date?" I asked. His smile grew, "Only if you want it to be." He said. "I'd like that… I'd really, really like that…" I said looking out over the city again. I felt him place a hand on my cheek and turn my face to look at him. He kissed me again and this time when he pulled away, he left his forehead rest against mine. "A date it is then." He said, "A date is it…" he repeated in a whisper.
And so we continued with what started as a hangout as friends and turned into so much more. We sat holding each other ever so gently like we might hurt each other if we were any tighter, but like we might lose each other if we let go. Gentle kisses that were like feathers landing on a bed after a pillow fight. Gazing up at the stars that were like glittery sparkles on a girl's dress and scattered like sprinkles on ice cream. I stared at the moon that shown down like a spot light in the night and would be covered up by a blanket of clouds. It seemed to shine down on us like we were the stars of a show.

I smiled at the sound of crickets and the creek nearby filling the silence with song and beauty.

It was just a date…
A simple date.
