Love Knows No Boundaries

"Um, Duo? I'm going out for a while," Umi called to her boyfriend.

"Where ya goin'?" Duo asked.

"It's none of your business where I'm going! My god, I don't need you prying into my personal life! It's bad enough when you read my letters and emails- and don't deny it, cause I saw you- but do you need to know everything about where I go and what I do? I don't ask where you're going every time you leave my sight!" Umi exploded, shrieking at the top of her lungs.

"Y'know, if I was paranoid, I'd think there was something you're not telling me."

"Well there's not, so you can just shut up about it," Umi retorted as she stomped out the door.

"Umi." Duo called out, but she was already gone. He stormed to his room and threw a pillow repeatedly against the wall, shouting curses to the sky. What the hell was her problem? It used to be that the two of them told each other everything, but now it was like she was hiding something from him, some deep, dark secret. Where had they gone wrong?

He walked into the living room and took a photo down from the mantel. He lovingly traced the outline of the face in the picture with his fingers, then placed it back on the shelf. He picked up the phone and dialed Lia's number. Lia was Umi's best friend; maybe she would know what was going on with his girlfriend. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"Uh-huh. Okay.Yeah, sure. I'll be right over." Lia hung up the phone and went over to the hall closet. She pulled on her summer jacket and yelled, "Quatre, I'm going over to Duo's!"

"Okay, Lia! What time are you gonna be home?"

"Um, I'm not sure. I think something happened between Duo and Umi. He sounded pretty upset. So I guess.as long as it takes."

"Okay. Say hi for me."

"I will. Buh-bye!" She left, slamming the door behind her. As she walked, she tried to think what could be bothering Duo so much. Within minutes, she was knocking at Duo's door.

"C'mon in," Duo called out in a tired voice.

"It's me, Duo," Lia strode into the kitchen and sat down beside Duo. He was looking straight ahead, his hand supporting his head, while the other rested on the table. Lia was startle to see tears in his eyes. She lightly placed her hand over Duo's. "Duo, what happened? What's wrong?"

"I think.I think there's something Umi's not telling me. I mean, it sounds stupid, but the thing is that we've always told each other everything, and now I reel like she's not."

"Oh, Duo! Oh my god, I swear I don't know anything about this. Umi didn't tell me that something was going on!" She got up and walked around to the back of his chair and wrapped her arms around him.

"It's just that.I was planning to.god, this sounds stupid, but.I was planning on proposing."

"Oh.my.god."Lia stammered.

"And I was thinking.maybe she knows, and she doesn't want me to, so she's trying to chase me away, y'know?"
